Default lsd

I'm planning on purchasing a quaife lsd soon, the group buy is for $805
shipped which is great. However my problem is I'm not sure how to install an
lsd, I've never messed around with the transmission before so I was
wondering if maybe someone could suggest a reputable shop.

I'm located in the bay area.

I'd really like to do the install myself but I don't think this will be as easy as installing cams or suspension. I've installed every single mod I have on my car right now, taking apart the trannsmission is something I don't think I can do alone.

Sorry, I can't help you with a shop recommendation, but I have a question...

Do you think you can take the tranny off by yourself? This could actually be considered the hardest part, but if you could do it, you'd save yourself a considerable amount of money.

Just a thought.

With my engine/tranny already out of the car (preparing to do a swap), I removed the tranny and took it to a friends house. He showed me how to disassemble it (pretty straitforward) and he took the original diff and the quaife to a machine shop he'd used before. They installed the bearings and transferred the speedo gear over to the quaife. I then reassembled everything.

The assembly was actually quite simple. Follow the helms, double-check your torque specs (triple check your torque wrench (don't ask ) and you're good to go.

Luckily the tranny was off the car. Back when I was going to install a quaife in my daily driver prelude (only car I had) I had a hard time finding anyone who wanted to do the work... and especially anyone who would guarantee a turnaround time. I'm guessing you'd have better luck on the west coast though.

I'm afraid that I'd accidentally hit a part of the tranny and little tiny bits and pieces would go flying and I'd never be able to reassemble the transmission.

I installed a final drive gear and synchros by myself, my first time doing anything of that caliber. It was a long effort, but well worth it. Not only did I learn a lot, but my tranny feels great and the higher final owns me

I've replaced clutches, but I'm talking about like...inside the transmission. The diagram in the Helm's manual scares me.

Where are you located? A local import Guru put in my Quaife and a full syncro and bearing rebuild kit for $140.

Retail is $795 these days. But every place I've seen adds shipping, so the $805 probably saves you the shipping cost.
