lsd
I'm planning on purchasing a quaife lsd soon, the group buy is for $805
shipped which is great. However my problem is I'm not sure how to install an
lsd, I've never messed around with the transmission before so I was
wondering if maybe someone could suggest a reputable shop.

I'd really like to do the install myself but I don't think this will be as easy as installing cams or suspension. I've installed every single mod I have on my car right now, taking apart the trannsmission is something I don't think I can do alone.
Sorry, I can't help you with a shop recommendation, but I have a question...
Do you think you can take the tranny off by yourself? This could actually be considered the hardest part, but if you could do it, you'd save yourself a considerable amount of money.
Just a thought.

With my engine/tranny already out of the car (preparing to do a swap), I removed the tranny and took it to a friends house. He showed me how to disassemble it (pretty straitforward) and he took the original diff and the quaife to a machine shop he'd used before. They installed the bearings and transferred the speedo gear over to the quaife. I then reassembled everything.
The assembly was actually quite simple. Follow the helms, double-check your torque specs (triple check your torque wrench (don't ask
) and you're good to go.
Luckily the tranny was off the car. Back when I was going to install a quaife in my daily driver prelude (only car I had) I had a hard time finding anyone who wanted to do the work... and especially anyone who would guarantee a turnaround time. I'm guessing you'd have better luck on the west coast though.

I installed a final drive gear and synchros by myself, my first time doing anything of that caliber. It was a long effort, but well worth it. Not only did I learn a lot, but my tranny feels great and the higher final owns me
