Hyperfest......?
Is anyone goiing to this event. i wanted to go the HPDE the week before but registration is closed for beginner and intermediate. So I was told to try this event and the next VA region HPDE isn't till sometime in July. I wanted to avoid the Hyperfest, personally, because of all the other hooplah that they are going to have there and all the little ricers that are going to be attracted to this event.
Depending if anyone other "racers" are going then I may opt for this, otherwise I amy wait unitl the one at Lowes in Charlotte.

You can do the time trial/hpde on the jefferson circuit, I doubt they'll be many riceboys doing that. Besides for $99 its a pretty good deal. I think you'll find a lot of cool people doing that.
While the car show, burnout comp, and drift comp are sure to attract a lot of the foolish import car demographic I think a lot of sensible people will be there too just to see the Indy lights and Honda-Challenge. And for once there is a road racing event (other than WC) that is actually trying to get spectators.
Really what Hyperfest is trying to do is bring light to legion "ricers". I think a lot of those guys don't know about track driving, and know next to nothing about road racing since the only race series that are mainstream in the US are NASCAR and the open wheel series, which may not necessarily appeal to them. If they can see that there is a whole world of motorsport waiting for them, maybe they'll stop spending their money on body kits and start spending it on R-tires.

I'm signed up for Saturday (have an auto-x Sunday). Should be an interesting meeting of the cultures. Be fun to see how the track dogs, street crowd, and show-n-shine folks get along. Jefferson is a fun little track, with some good puzzles to solve. It's isolated enough that there shouldn't be too many folks wandering back there. Also, access should be easy to control, with just one way in and out.

I'm thinking about having a friend drive out my M3 so I can enter the drift competition. I mean, let's get real. How many folks entering will actually know how the hang the *** end out? I'm betting that the winner will be a road racer.
Sheeeeiit, if one of the instructors decided to take one of the BSR caprices out, people will get to drop their jaw in amazement as they watch a big white boat oversteer.

I had the same thought. At Carlisle I figured everyone doing the time trial would be less than experienced but lo and behold a few autocrossers showed up and laid the smack down. I have a feeling a road or rally racer will win the drift competition and an autocrosser will win the time trial

I will be there. This is Chris, the owner of that (now considered by much of the little racer wannabes) "ricer" hondaprelude.com site you are a member of.
I would say if you want to meet cool people and have a blast then come out. I will have plenty of cold Newcastles, the fat grill hook up and an extra chair with your name on it.
But regarding the rest of your post, who cares if some people are into appearance mods or whatever. I don't think I am cool enough to be part of the honda-tech "racer" crowd. Actually, this is going to be very unpopular but there are a lot of people on this site and others that spend entirely too much time tearing other people down by labeling them this or that. That is so weak and is why myself and a number of other people I know that own race cars and race them don't post here much. So some kid wants big chrome wheels on his car or a body kit. Big deal. Maybe it is my age showing (an old man of almost 30 now)
but I don't feel the need to elevate "racers" (I guess as defined by any jackass with the money to build or buy a race car) over everyone else into cars by bashing everyone else. What a waste of time and effort.
Flame on,
Chris

I won't shoot that comment down in flames for a second. I think its bang on!
I am starting to think the appearance folks and we share a lot more in common than we have differences and I challenge anyone to tell me how the p-car with rollbar/race seats/harnesses/fire bottle is anything but 'ricey' by its appearance. I've said it before and repeat it now, I was intently perusing the Wings West on-line catalogue before my first driver's school - had to replace brakes and rotors after that so I didn't return to it and then was all over doing the full Comptech bs before my third - after talking to Giles and Shultz at CMP that weekend, I bagged that, bought a car to build up for the track and got serious. I am assuming I am not the only guy in the history of this board to have been converted - if I had thought this group of folks at that time were a bunch of elitist ******, I probably would have never listened to them. Hopefully that is something to think about . . .
- In my defense on the AGSM post (which I hope doesn't contradict what I am saying), the guy who posted it got into it too so I think everyone involved thought it was a hoot and it clearly was never directed at ANYONE in particular.

Chris, I wasn't trying to ruffle feathers here. I was stating it this way because when I attended the HPDE at VIR I was just in awe of how much more welcoming it was compared to when we used to go to the big drag race/shows. People who you had never seen before and were glad to see new faces at the track and saw that you were genuinely interested in racing were coming up to me and talking to me. At the drag races it was all the ricers who think that there Civic HX hatch is the fastest thing on four wheels talking smack.
and FYI, I'm a member of your site seeing as how I own a 2001 Prelude. I will be racing a '90 CRX SI though. I don't post on your site alot though I do use it for the setups. I actually make my cyber home at Preludeonline.com

I agree with you. There is nothignin the world that says that a person with a "fixed up" car can't show and shine and HPDE all at the same time.
It jsut requires a little more maintenence in 2 catagories. I know. The Camaro gets both treatments.
Also, as you said - anyone can be converted!!!!
It will be good to see you!

All of the Honda-Challenge drivers will be there but then again we are just a bunch of ricers. We don't actually race.

I knew it! it's all a fix, just like WWF.
