broken valve spring....what to do???
ok so the other day im driving down the high way and all of a sudden my car starts chugging and then turns off. i pull over and start if back up and it misfiring. i narrow it down to cylinder one then change the plug and wires. that didnt work. got it towed to my shop and put a diode on cylinder one and it was pulsing normal but i change out the injector just for kicks and that didnt fix it. so i pull the valve cover off and lift the rocker arm up and i have a broken spring on cylinder 1 on the exhaust cam. ive contacted crower and they are sending me another one. but my question is am i going to have to take the head off to change the valve spring or do they make a valve spring compressor that you can use while the head is still bolted in. thanks
How does the valve look from the top... does it move freely? I'd be worried that the valve dropped into the cylinder and at least got bent a little.
He (as in h23vtecpowered) should check to see for sure if the valve is warped in anyway though should he not? The spring broke mid stroke so that valve could have wavered in any direction. Or is the good compression numbers enough to prove the valve is fine?
