is there a stronger alternator for the ef that just bolts on
im planning on upgrading the alternator really soon for more juice.
well is there an alternator that will fit the stock location without any modding but will bump up the juice a bit more or a lot more?
just didnt want any headache with modding one just to get more power from the alternator.
brand?
model?
stock oem from another honda?
any links to site that might sell stronger bolt on alt's?
this is for a 91 civic ef d16a6 motor.

This is a good question
, would like to know as well if there is another alternator (OEM) that will bolt up and give more joice then the stock D16A6 alternator.

Well so far I have found that the D16A6 has a 60 amp alternator (according to google) and a D16Y8/Z6 has a 75 amp alternator but it's obd1 so I'm sure it has a different connector/wiring

Pricing is not bad for what you get, we use them all the time, and now with the Canadian $ so high, they are darn near cheap.
We normally call them, tell them what we need, [MM&Y of car] and how much more current we need, they give us a shipped price, and we have it within 10 days, within 2 days if we pay a little extra.
Always have had very good service and tech support and warranty.

called him today.
wow is all i can say about the price.
guy is very knowledgable about his product, that's for sure.
the alternator is between 525.00 to 550.00 (that is not a mistype) for the ef D16 alternators.
i know his stuff is probably top notch but this is out of my price range for a high output alternator.

expect to pay this for a reliable unit or a unit worth buying. you might find a cheaper unit on ebay. you need to figure out were you need the power. some don't put out power at idle

will they even last 4 years or so?

Have you checked your local alt. shops?

no i have not checked the local shops. i wouldnt think they have any high output ones that i can afford.
also i found this one on ebay.

seems pretty do-able. not sure about the quality tho.
its a local place that i can actually pick up.
i dont know if that is a good sign or not.
for about 90.00 bucks it gives out 130amps.
what you guys think of this one?

Its really impossible to say. The diodes and voltage regulators are what usually burn out. It's impossible to know what they are using by a picture. $550 sounds spendy to me. Is that a 130 amp alternator for $550?
I'd say for $90 if 130 amps is all you need I would try it. It's a 90 mistake if you screw up and it's not like the thing would die instantly. Now if honda would only mount these in a more accesible area.

I've read allot of good things about Iraggi alternator's.
LOL, the eBay one, that you can pick locally sounds to me like it may be coming from a local alt. shop, and you thought you could not afford a HO alt. from a local alt. shop.

PS, the nice thing about an alt. shop, you can have them hook up the alt. and do a load check, that will tell you exactly what the output is and at what RPM.
Also nice to find out that it's DOA before you install it, [as mentioned, not a real easy RE&RE] and no question that you did something wrong that is not covered under warranty.

do you think they will do the test for me while im there?
another thing i noticed about my current alt. when im at idle the volt meter tells me its about 12 volts.
when i rev it up or go faster the meter goes to 13 then high 13's.
is that normal?

Looks like a stock unit re-done. Try it and see how it works. I would make sure it put out that amp and idle. I have a place out here that adds a external regulater that you can adjust were you want the power to be at. But it pricey.

If it is an alt./batt. shop then yes, there is no reason not to.
When testing for voltage you should get 12.5V with engine off, about 13.5V with engine running, [at idle] and up to 14.5V when revved up.
However voltage output is not an indication of current output, "AMPS".

do most high output alternators use a smaller pulley in order to make the amperage increase at idle? or is it simply because of the larger winding?
