Default getting a new alternator

i recently installed 2 amps, an old PPI 100w and a kenwood 400w, and subsequently killed my alternator. i think my alternator was almost dead anyways, and the addition of these two amps was the knife in the heart for mr. alternator. so, im workign on getting it replaced, and im wondering if i should replace it with another OEM acura alternator or should i go to an alternator shop and have them install one that will run my amps more adequatley?

also, acura quoted me $357 for a new gsr alternator, parts only. i was told this price is ridiculous! what is a non-ridiculous price?

thanks in advance,
mike

Probably can run them, but you may as well have the sucurity of a higher output alternator if your going to be replacing the stock one. I purchased a 130A one from AlterStart in TX. The service was great and I received it on time. Their number is 800-607-0016.

I had my unit tested and it put out exactly what they claimed. For $150.00 plus $15.00 to ship I highly recommend them.

Go get a rebuilt higher output alternator and save your cash...a new alternator is crazy for that price especially since you would still have the same output.

A rebuilt alternator is usually less than half the price of a new one and performs the same, if you can find a higher output one, you end up prob paying 1/2 - 3/4 the price of a new oem one and your way better off (especially for those amps!)

I've been running multiple amp systems in our honda and acuras for years (damn thats a lot of money in car audio lolz) and haven't had a problem yet and I'm putting out way more power than you... I do have a bass capacitor.. but so far the alternator has been fine.. so yeah another factory alternator will be fine.. but almost $400? thats crazy.. my friend got a new alternator.. I think the brand was stinger I forget.. its higher output than the stock alternator.. I don't remember how much it cost him.. but yeah you might look into aftermarket or rebuilt alternators.. cuz almost $400 for the acura one is a lot of money..
