Default F22s: which is best and why?

I just picked up a '95 Accord EX daily driver... it has like 174K on it, so I figure the engine still has life in it but I should still be hunting down another motor just in case. It has the USDM F22 vtec and auto transmission.

I researched the different F22s that came in the various accords/preludes, and the best option for a daily driver seems to be the DOHC non-vtec F22 out of JDM preludes.

What do you guys think?

There is honestly nothing wrong with the motor that came in your car. Wih proper care you can get another 100,000 out of it. What is it in paricular about the dohc f22 that makes you think it is better for daily driving. I'm not putting your choice down, just wondering. A lot of people get off on dohc motors because they can put DOHC stickers on everything. If for some reason your motor does take a turn for the worse, you can pick up an identical motor relatively cheap, and installation is straight forward.

I am going to assume that you are looking for a motor to modify as your curent engine is perfectly fine for another 100k easy if you take care of it^^^

If your looking for and engine to rebuild what type of setup are you looking at doing with your car? Daily Driver, Street & Strip, Strictly 1320 or AutoX.

First thing to consider is your overall budget for the engine and any other mods/upgrades.
It's always best to have a goal set for what you want to build. IE naturally aspirated or forced induction (turbo) And an approximate HP goal that you want to get out of the engine.

FYI you should have a car that can handle the power that you want to put to the ground. Suspension and brakes are always a good starting point for mods. That way you can take some time and get a feel for the car before you drop more HP into it.

Your going to get people that will say to junk the F and go with an H22 and there will be people who say to boost the shyte out of the F as it has iron sleeves. The little piece of advice that I can give you is read and listen to everyone but don't believe everything that you read and hear. Go to the source, your local engine builder and tuner. They will be able to give you all the info on what they will be able to do for you if you can't do it yourself. Not much sense in building a turbo car if there isn't anyone in your area that can tune it correctly or sleeve it if the need be. Just my 2¢ worth.

Oh yeah I say stick with the B1 block and swap to a non VTEC A6 head...lol

I have a 5.0 Mustang background, so I know some about engines/driveline/etc.

I chose the DOHC because it seems to be the one that makes the most power stock, it seems to have the more preferable head (flow-wise), and it is still of the same engine family. Chumps would be the ones arguing to stay with the v-tec cause I can pop V while running my 16 second 1/4.

To be honest, the engine seems to be in really good shape... and I plan to keep it auto for convenience.

Seems like you answered your own question in your first post then. So why bother post a question if you already know that your looking to go with the F22B?

I'm still kinda new to the honda stuff, but willing to learn.

I was just wondering if there were any things I was not aware of (certain engine won't bolt up to ____ because ___. ) Maybe you guys know of certain combos that exist that I haven't explored.

I just read the H2B swap... sounds really interesting too.

Anyways... the car is my daily driver, and is destined to get minor bolt ons. Not trying to build a racer at all. Although a turbo kit does sound nice after my tax return money comes around.

better as in make or design..I'd go with the F22a6 due to the head design and ports...for your purposes your fine with the motor in their... dont get ahead of yourself..the fact that your car is an auto is a big hinderance in everymaking that car fast.....I prefer a stock f to a stock h for my own reasos.....throw a 50 shot on there thats the best bang for buck IMO......have fun

oh my girls had 203xxx miles on it for she hydrolocked it it was the F22b2..honda motors stock last forever with verylittle maintance..and do not waste your money on a header..the stock manifold is in par with crap like DC sports..unless you like wasting money???

Hmmm... I was thinking of getting a header... local place has them in stainless for $65, the racing cat for another $25, and a cat-back with the N1 style muffler for another $120. Seems cheap to me. I'd have the whole hi-po exhaust system for about $250.
