Well after a rainy weekend, i open my trunk of my hatch to get my school books and find out its filled with water . im guessing theres a leak from somewhere but dont know where. its only wet on the left side of the car. i checked the rubber seals and they seem fine. any suggestions?

 

Check your taillights. I believe that's how most water gets in on the hatches.

 

i had the same problem about 3 months ago...it is probably a leaking tail light. i had to replace the seal then i found out some of my body panels were expletiveed so had to take it to a body shop to get it fixed but that was b/c who ever owned the car b4 me got in a accident and got shitty work done on the car.

 

damn i hope there no body panel leaks. i dont have money for that. im thinking im just gonna spray my back end with water and see where the leak is coming from and pay extra attention to the tail light. Thanks guys!

 

yeah its the hatch lights, i went to walmart and bought some 70-80 cents foam at the fabric section and draw and cut it out and bam its good.

 

so basically i would use the foam as a backpiece for the taillight?

 

WraP it with the weather strip stuff. They sell it at Autozone, Joes, or even big lots. It's the dark grap strip that is sticky on one side.

 

yes use as foam you can stick on top of old thats what i did its sticky on one side.

 

1.Take your taillight off
2.Take off the foam gasket that is between your car and taillight
3.Go to wal mart and find sheets of foam (most likely in the craft section for like 80 cents)
4.Use a pen to trace the old gasket onto the new gasket (aka walmart foam sheet)
5.Cut out with scissors and poke holes where needed.
6.Reinstall with new walmart foam gasket and say goodbye to leak,

p.s.be careful not to torque those bolts for the headlight down too much. They are fragile and can break off easily.

No problem. There is a how-to somewhere on here with pictures and more detailed steps...but I couldn't find it for you. So I just typed it out real quick. But yeah, its straight forward.

 

i need to do this too, my hatch be leaking. i think its from the taillights too.

 

i just did this, the two new seals cost me like 15 bucks from honda, took me 30 tops to pull both out and replace them, and no more water.

 

New taillight gaskets are the way to go. If it still leaks though, check the rear air ducts. Mine were leaking, there is a similar rubbish taillight like seal around them and they fail after a while. They can be siliconed though, or taken out and re sealed with the same foam you use on the taillights.

My advice to OP and anyone really with leaky trunks, is to strip the back of the car(side trim especially so you can see the taillights etc. ) and to get your mate or dad to hose water over slowly, i saw the leak straight away with all the trim gone. Time consuming but well worth it. Saves you money by replacing parts that are actually toast and not just replacing and hoping.

 

i drilled 2 holes under the spare. the trunk doesnt get flooded just stays a little damp.

 

so i bought this spay sealant from home depot. my friend said it will work. but i dont have time to do it til the weekend. since its not raining anymore i figured i can wait. has anyone used a spray sealant before?

Cover up the problem instead of fixing it

does anyone have the gasket template?? i have the same problem and i found out my tail lights didnt even have the gaskets..
