Hey guys,
In the last 2 days, when I put my car into reverse (and sometimes first), a weird winding/squealing noise occurs. It's not the normal winding noise reverse makes though, this one is high pitched and kind of sounds like a car who needs brakes done. Does anyone know what this problem is?
Thanks in advance!

Check the power steering fluid (if your car is so equipped).
The same thing happened on my '94 Civic LX. Filled up the reservoir and it fixed the problem.

The guy cut the powersteering awhile back, so I don't think that's it unfortunately

Kind of inbetween, like when it grabs and i hit the gas a bit, it makes the noise. If I engage it very slowly, there is no noise.

well it could be three things most likely, your isb which symptoms are whining noise when you are in gear and gasing and goes away when you hit the clutch, it could be your release bearing or your pilot bearing which makes noise when you hit the clutch your symptoms are not good enough for me to tell, please let me know more

Im glad I found this thread. Im having pretty much the same issue. I have a CX model with a B16A swap. So I dont have power steering at all. I recently replace the clutch and pressure plate with a Competition Stage 2 kit from CC (I love it). It only happens when I first back out of my drive way in reverse and then slightly makes the noises once I put it into 1st gear. This may sound wierd but the only way I can describe the noise is it sounds like a RC car after the battery is started to run out.
Ive noticed that it will do it less if I allow the car a warm-up. I basically watch the RPM's, once they have dropped after about 5 minutes of idling I then back out. Maybe it has something to do with the cold weather of winter, maybe not.
Ill check my fluid level, maybe I need some.

I know this thread is 4 years old but i have to bring this back to life cause im sick of hearing it.
I have that same problem loud whirring noise when i let go off 1st or even second. I used to have a xtd 6 puck clutch, pressure plate, release bearing kit and it started making that noise. I thought it was the cheap xtd clutch so i swapped the clutch disk the pressure plate the release bearing the pilot bearing and the flywheel for ACT. and guess what.. the noise havent changed at all! same exact thing.
I would be surprise if its the input shaft bearing cause there isnt any noise difference when i press on the clutch in neutral.. it sounds from the driver side also.. i replaced the timing belt, tensionner, water pump this year.. any help would be really appreciated.
