something underneath my car began rattling in 5th gear at low speed today. Only happens in 5th gear. 1-4th, no rattle. anyone know whats causing this? it sounds like metal to metal..

 

haha sounds like your motor is lugging, ITRs dont like 5th at low speeds

 

no its not that rattling, but i do know what you mean though. Its distinct with the rattling i'm getting right now. it really sounds like something is loose underneath..

i cant figure out what it is though being as it only rattles in 5th gear..

tighten your shifter linkage, maybe? Mine was loose.

 

it might be the heat shield

jack up the car and squeez it down if you can.

that might help a little

heat shield..? the shield protecting the cat?

 

do you have a carsound cat??? that could explain any types of rattling

 

no, bone stock header/cat/exhaust
if its due to vibrations, that wouldnt make sense if 1-4th gear doesnt rattle.. damn what the hell's causing this rattle
