Yes, there's an antenna... Should look like the one in the pic below.

Antenna should be mounted in the center of the windshield as high as possible, but not near any tint strips or metallic coatings...
Could be a poor ground causing your poor range issue. Could also be that the installer coiled up the extra antenna wire instead of stretching it out in the headliner like DEI recommends.
Sounds like a trip back to the installer is in order.
And while you're there, tell him to adjust the shock sensor.

As to what is wrong, it can be any number of things, some already mentioned, or a combination of things, the last thing you want is to go pocking around and do something that could void your warranty.
Did you not receive your owners and install guides or unused wiring from the shop that installed the system?

Did you look at the picture above? Does your car have an antenna like the one in the pretty picture? It's doubtful that they switched antennas on you. The two way units don't work with the standard single-radius antennas for the one-way units.
It sounds like A) you've learned your lesson about not going to authorized resellers/installers, B) you're going to have to pay again to have a reputable installer troubleshoot/fix the other shop's problems, or C) you're going to get a crash course in alarm install and fixing it yourself.
I would start with C by crawling up under the dash & seeing where they put the alarm brain, how the install looks, where they grounded the unit, how they ran the antenna wire, and how they made their connections.
Post pictures and we'll try to tell you what's wrong.
