Default burning oil up top, engine covered in oil help

ok so lately after a headgasket change i notice that when im in vtec i can smell oil through my vents (not burning oil just oil itself), but only durring vtec. Also i have noticed the front of my engine and trans are covered in oil lately (wtf?). it burns oil up top but only at 7k and beyond. I had a friend drive the car so i could see and from right after it crosses over (like 5500 or so) it starts puffin out black smoke (probably because its not tuned yet) and after like 6 or 7 it starts puffin out blue smoke with the black smoke. It eats through oil when i rev it to 7k alot but if i keep it below that its perfectly fine. Any ideas?

A while ago i forgot to put my oil filler cap on and it splatter oil all over a bunch of stuff (only turned hte car on then turned it off, didnt lose more than a quart of oil) and my filter on the valvecover breather got doused in oil, is it just clogged and causing this? Heres some pics of the engine:

its ls/vtec if that makes any difference, stock b18b1 block, b16 head with ITR cams and valvetrain, untuned on a basemap with hondata s200. Any ideas? please help!!

maybe your VTEC solenoid is leaking. That would explain the oil smell when in VTEC. It's common for engines to burn a LITTLE oil at 7k+.

You might be eating oil because you're leaking it as well as burning it. Since it's probably leaking or leaking more only when in VTEC, you'll notice oil go down a shitload if you drive the car hard.

Clean your engine bay. Use a good engine cleaner. Then trace the leak to the top most point. That's where the leak is coming from.

so lets say the solenoid is leaking (had a feeling that might be it), whats the fix? is there some sort of gasket between it?

The oil around the vtec solenoid has been there a while, just lately i've noticed it all over the block and trans.

yeah. There's a couple of gaskets in there. Take it all apart and see. The replacement gaskets are cheap. Buy OEM. I dont really know if aftermarkets make those gaskets, though.

Check your distributor O-ring also.

Yep. 00 Si parts will work. I think any B series VTEC parts will work.

Any b series vtec sil. will work always use new gasket and clean gasket surface. clean block and trans with degreaser have a friend start the car let it warm up and rev watch for any leaking. i believe the motor has to be warm before vtec will engage from what friends told me just a theory but if no lsigns of sil.eaking check dist. o-ring for leaks Hope it helps!

check your gasket on your vtec selenoid and your valve cover gasket. luckily...these gaskets are too expensive..at least i dont think. i would almost gurantee thats where your leak is coming from...one of those 2. lol check your distributor o-ring too. like everyone else said.

Be careful not to get any real agressive degreaser on the gasket. ESPECIALLY brake cleaner. Clean the mating surfaces with brake cleaner sprayed on a paper towel. Dry it completely before putting the new gasket/solenoid on.

You also have to be going over 15mph for VTEC to engage....unless you have a VAFC or something.

On stock engine management, you need:

Coolant at operating temp
oil press.
VSS signal
VTEC hardware/wiring/software in good working order (duh)
Certain RPM (duh)
Above a certain throttle position

There's a few more qualifications. But those are the basics.

could a clogged valvecover breather filter be causing it to leak out of someplace?
