Default What a good gun to spray with??

Well I think Id like to dabble into painting. I have an old toolbox that needs some love so I can practice on it. I already have a compressor so I just need a good quality gun for a decent price.

For the ~$100 range the Sharpe FX3000 series or the Devilbiss Finishline are pretty decent guns.

decent very very low end gun, yes they are.

i will not spray anything cheaper than finishline, but that would be just me.

not sure which one is the fx3000 the cheapest walmart like sharpe has some crappy nozzle and air pattern.

I want a good gun for a good price. Actual price I would say under 300. Basically what gun out there is the best bang for the buck.

Compressor is a 60gallon.

I have no idea what kind of paint. Most stuff would probably be car parts.

Honestly I have alot of research to do on this subject, before I buy the gun. But I figure its a good start.

While we are at it:

What makes one good better than another, besides build quality?

Better atomization and less air usage.

Good gun around 300 with your compressor?

You can find used Sata's around that range. Also if you up your budget a little more Iwata LPH400's aren't that far off.

Then get a cheap Astro primer gun and you're all set. The Iwata lays clear like a dream! Though I'm not that much of a Sata fan. They're heavy and use too much air for my liking.

The FX3000 just came out which is probably why you haven't heard of it.

If you could find a used Iwata LPH-400 I'd pick one of them up. Otherwise a used Sata NR 2000 or 3000 wouldn't be bad though I wouldn't go digital.

Devilbiss has a number of guns in the $230ish range that are pretty good.

its all in a matter of opinion . ive seen the cheap guns throw down great paint jobs . getting a nice paint job is 50% the gun and 50% is the person spraying it . the proper technique plays a huge part in a good paint job . do some research on this as well . ive never heard anything good about pressure fed guns . so id say stick with gravity fed . also your going to need different tips for the gun , that shoot primer , paint and clearcoat . and always give the gun a meticulous cleaning .

You might want to consider getting 3 diffrent guns. One for primer ( get the astro as mentioned), one for base coat, and one for clear coat.

No need for 3 guns, thats redic for a first time painter. A single HVLP such as a used saTA is more than fine for priming and painting with different tips.

Anyway its not the size of the tank, but the cfm that matters, if your compressor can't keep up it is constantly going to be on and possibly causing pressure drops causing orange peel, uneven spray etc.

look on autobody101 about equipment information.
