I can tell you right off that this is not a P72-P75 as both of these ECU's used the 1980-XXXX mainboard.

The board number you have here is 11F0 1500. This mainboard along with the 1720-1500 were used in most of the 92-95 OBD1 ECUs. Except for the P72-P75. Buy looking at the chips and resistors I can tell you that it is an OBD1 5sp VTEC ECU, It is chipped with an SST EPROM and 4 pin CN2 dataloging header. No knock board so it is not fore use with a B series DOHC VTEC.

It could be any of these P05, P06, PR4, P28(doubt it). Were the stickers on the outside of the case and the top of the gray plastic connector have been purposely removed I would put money on it being a 5sp VTEC converted P06.

Ah, I just assumed, since you said it was vtec.

I know very little about the inside of these things.

I do the P06 to VTEC & IAB conversions all the time. I don't miss represent what I'm doing. I give people what they want for as cheap as I can do it. And the P06 is the cheapest way to give someone whatever they want.

How much did you pay for it.

150 shipped, which is too much.
A local guy will do a p06 to p72 for around 100 i think

$125-$150 shipped to your door for a fully chipped & converted P06 doesn't seem unreasonable. Fully chipped P72-P28's are in the $200 range + shipping.

I have to ask, If you have a local guy doing them for $100 why didn't you go for that option? If he warranties his work, his converted P06's for $100 are just as good as a chipped P72 for $200.

I wanted an oem p72, I wasnt looking for a chipped ecu.
I actually want to use s300 for when the car is boosted, so a chip is kinda unnecessary.

Sounds like you got scammed big time if he told you that this was a virgin P72.

Are you running a GSR IM with IAB's?

If you are just an FYI, upon further inspection this ECU does not seem to have the P72 IAB support installed on the board.

No, I have a blox manifold, so no iab.

I already contacted the seller - did as soon as I opened it up. Im not that concerned, since I will just take it up with paypal and ebay directly, if he doesnt refund in full.

No IAB's that's good then.

You can still use the ECU with the s300. I your that much closer to installing it buy having a zif chipped ECU. I think it's just a matter of pulling the 28 pin SST chip off the zif socket and replacing it with 28 strait pins and removing the white plastic clip from the 4 pin CN2.

Its my understanding there wont be a cel for iab with the stock unit anyway, as its just a blind sensor.

Still, its the principle of the thing.
Plus, I dont know what thing thing is actually mapped for. It may have some ridiculous "moogen" program, which will just dump fuel, with vtec engagement at 3500.
I dont want to spend another $40 for a basemap chip either.

Actually, it's very clear that it was a P06. Of course it's been upgraded to VTEC.

Can you tell me exactly how to ID that type of thing? Is there a serial or something? Maybe a FAQ pictorial thread/page somewhere?

edit*
The # in the lower left, near the center brace, huh?

I've got a few 229 and 249 chips as well the 301 chips on my P06's. Are there certain chip numbers that are specifically for P06 ECU's?
