if the Timing Belt breaks how bad is it?
i'm pretty sure the timing belt snapped, there was a loud snap noise then the car never started again. would i be better off trying to find a new used engine or rebuild this one?
also is this something that can be done in a home shop? or would it be better to take it some where.
i am limited on cash,
i have an engine hoist if needed and plenty of metric tools.

Are you sure you have a B16B engine, thats a pretty rare and expensive CTR (civic type R) built only 1997-2000 for oversea's markets only. If that is what you have and you have a snapped belt, you will have damage for sure.....a number valves, plus you could have piston damage
You heard a loud snap on an old car with a very rare expensive engine, then without checking what happened you tried to start it again?!?!?!?!
Snapping the timing belt will cause serious damage to valves and can damage your pistons as well.
You sure it wasn't something else? I dunno if a timing belt would make a snap noise. would be more of a BANG BANG BANG noise.

The day my car broke down was bad, i was doomed before i got in my car, ditched a friend of mine to take a hot chick from work home. first major intersection got a flat tire, about 4 blocks later, heard a snap/bang sound engine died, right before a major intersection, but i did clutch it and roll into a parking lot. now hind sight is 20/20 if i would have taken my friend home like i was supposed to and left the hot piece of *** there, my car would still be running perfect.
also having trouble getting the valve cover off, to verify that it is the timing belt, I take care of my car, i dont have any after market parts yet, i have had a new cam and ecu unit for a few years and a 5 speed tranny but i prefer the 4 speed tranny, longer gears.
engine does not leak oil, does not leak water. i drove it from california to new jersey in 3 days and from new jersey to nevada in 2 days. oil gets changed regularly, i have wanted to change out the bushings in the motor mounts it rattles a lil bit. dont know if that will fix it, but its worth a try.

If you only installed one cam, and you had a 4speed tranny on the current engine im willing to say that you have a D series engine, which is fairly standard in a civic.

He's got a D15B1 or D15B2 then. How can you confuse it with a CTR motor?
