Default vtec solenoid question...

well i just got my engine back from laskey racing (laskeyracing.com) and my mechanic tells me that my engine won't stay on unless the accelerator is pushed. he says he had a specialist come to his shop and the guy told him that the vtec solenoid needs to be replaced. does anybody here know or have experiance with there engine install who could help me in determining whether or not this is infact the problem? thanks for reading.

why would the vtec solenoid not allow the motor to start? if anything the solenoid wont allow vtec to engauge when the motor is running.

Maybe he meant your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) or IACV (Idle Air Control Valve). You motor will still work with a blown vtec solenoid, it just wont cross over into vtec. Idle deals with the TPS and possibly one other sensor.

Someone else will chime in on this.

CYP and maybe IACV and TPS and check the Map sensor theres a problem when the motor shifts or vibrates that causes the connection to go bad.

could be in the wiring. if the solenoid is actuated it could possibly cause poor idle quality or no idle off throttle. un plug it and see what happens.
