Default 00 accord coupe check engine light

ok, i gotsa 00 accord coupe v6vtec. put a straight pipe in it. after a lil while the check engine light came on and wont go away. is it something to do with the computer or o2 sensor? if its o2 sensor, where do i get one that will work with the pipe? sorry im a newb and not to keen on the lingo. also how often do i clean the filter on a short air intake and how do i clean it? Att:this is not the maintenence req light.

Why do you have a straight pipe?

There's a large number of guys who race their cars that run with the cat.

And yes the CEL will be related to the O2 sensor - you can take the car to AutoZone and they'll scan it for free to tell you the exact error

ok see the thing is im pretty sure it was replaced once they just didnt tell me, cause the light went away after a maintenence at one place. then after about a week, it came back on.
so im almost 100% its the o2 going bad . i put ithe pipe on cause i read that it would save gas if i dont punch it.
anyways. so how do i keep the o2 sensor from going bad? does this hurt my gas millage with the o2 sensor not working?
and any suggestions on how to clean the filter on a short air intake?

Your o2 sensor tripped because you have a straight pipe search for a defouler, it may help in your situation.

ok it fools the ecu, but im confused as to which is the secondary sensor? are there 2 on the pipe itself? i read it will affect my a/f ratio if put on the first one so i dont want it on the first one plus the second one is the only one that checks for cat.

Put a cat back on it. You are killing power, gas, and my nice garden. I like my garden. It's nice to make a good home grown tomato sandwich for lunch.

And next time you post look over to the right >>>>>>>> There keep looking>>

See the options menu?

HA! Yeah I know, but hey you're really not going to do any good running without your cat. Yes there are ways around it, o2 sims, non foulers, etc.. The whole deal you read about saving gas..... I'm not an engineer but I think they are completely wrong. If you were running a full standalone race fully built JGTC then you wouldn't worry about gas but then, yes no cat is good. See, your factory ECU is designed, programmed, to see that cat in the system. If anything you are hurting gas mileage. And if, (yes IF) you were going to get any gains what so ever, dude, it's not enough to sweat. Work 3 minutes overtime each day and you won't miss a dime.

and yes I still love my tomatoes

even though I have a bridge ported rx7 with no cat.
