Default Tip to get a little more bass out of the bose sub in an RSX...

Cut out the cargo liner... Where that sub is in the spare tire.

If you cut a hole out right above the sub it makes quite a difference. We did it on my friends and so far so good!

Didn't really have any problems with weakness on the cargo tray or anything either! That is with carrying guitar amps, etc back there.

In my opinion this rates pretty low on the risk vs rewards scale. Bass is by it's nature very non directional. The cargo liner should not impead the sound to any great degree. But if you think it works and the weakened structure won't cause any problems, go for it.

Easy way to test is to crank up a song with the foam cover, then crank up the same song with the entire foam cover removed.

Obvious to some, but did the OP try this before they got the keyhole saw out and started hacking at their spare tire cover?

I've never tried testing without the cover there because it really shouldn't affect bass response, but who knows.

^^ Yeah true, I'm sure they didn't.

I would try removing the sub and stuffing the box with foam before I started cutting stuff up.

hey. It wasn't my car. And we did try it before we cut it out... We were bored one night in a parking lot and tried it.

Didnt' really make the bass louder just didn't have the muffled sound. Sounded more direct. Kind of like the difference between a 1X15 bass cab hitting the same note as an 8X10 bass cab. Just a different sound.

Even if bass is not directional you can still get muffled sounds from it.

Just listen to a sub in the trunk of a car and then listen to one that is mounted inside the car. you'll notice a difference there, same here. Or a bass drum stuffed with a blanket vs one that isn't vs one that isn't but has a big hole cut out of the front.
