Engine Swap ideas
Alright I'm a big civic fanatic. and it's been 7yrs since working on them. I was curiuos what swap i could do and what all i need in the swap. I bought this car off a kid who really didn't know much about what the swap the previous owner did and i finally figured it all out.
The car is a 1995 Honda Civic 2 door
Original motor was the D16Z6.
Now in it D16y7 non V-Tech 1996-2000 DX/VP/LX/CX
I want a stonger engine in this car but dont want to have to spend a grand on just an engine. I would like a V-Tech motor.
So all the input I can use for I am scoping it all out right now to see what all it will cost me.
Thanks

You can find an LS motor (b18b), whole swap, for under 1000. It pulls singlecams all day. Plus it leaves you with options for doing things later, such as swapping to a VTEC head ( LS/VTEC swap), and adding a GSR or b16 tranny into the mix. Either way you look at it, a B18b is a great starting point if you want to build up on it. Did i mention they love boost?
put a y8 head and intake manifold on it....Or if you want torque you could go with a jdm b20, I think passwordjdm sells those for about 600 bucks...find a trans and ls intake manifold and a few other things off of a ls motor and you'll have a non-vtec motor that is more torquey and powerful than a sohc vtec

and, OP... its VTEC, not v-tech. and you said 7 years... does that mean oil changes and rotating tires?
7 years and you don't know which motor would be best for under 1,000 and you said it was v-tech?

no not just rotating tires and changing oil. i worked on them.. and yes 7yrs of raising kids and not keeping up with models and engines. sorry if i did v-tech and not VTECH. again havn't been keeping up with model type or how to spell them.. you got the idea that's just the point. i haven't owned a civic since my 96 prelude. and my bad for askin for advice and not wanting to refer to the swap forum i would like people who have done the swap to give me ideas instead of reading what could be better. trying to save money since i have four kids to take care of.

Well now I feel like an ***. I thought you meant you have been working on them FOR 7 years. Been away from it for 7 years. My apologies. Anyways, I was suggesting reading up on motor swaps, and then deciding from there and then asking the tech's what they think would be a good idea for you. Good luck with the ride!
