D17A1/D17A (EM2/ES1 7gcivic 01-05) swap into EJ6('99 civic dx in my case) help ......
Currently my 1999 Honda civic DX is having motor problems and I want to swap for a newer engine, in particular, the 1.7 L motor that is available in the 7g civics. I want to spend less than $1500, and I do not need the power from k20's or B-series engines. I simply want to upgrade my d16 to a d17. Is the D17 swap bolt on? I am asking because the engine codes both start with "D." For my situation I prefer the D17 over a B-series motor because I want a newer motor (01-05 opposed to the B-series 01 and older). Has anyone done this swap? ... or know if this swap is possible?
Thanks,
Shawn

I wouldn't bother with a D17 myself, it's a lousy engine imo. You want a cheap swap, toss in an B18B swap, it's cheap, more powerful, and bolts right in!

My last civic was in need of an new engine, i spent $1400 for a B20Z, B18B tranny, ecu and axles.....dropped it into a 96 CX hatch. I have nothing but good things to say about it, and oh yeah, it would do 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds

Newer doesnt mean anything if it was beaten daily.
Whereas you can get a jdm b18b that has perfect compression all across for less than $1500 shipped.
But if you wanna do it go ahead, but do some research
If your answer is:" I already did research, and found nothing." Its probably cuz its not a worthwile/cost effective/practical swap.

Bump for your set-up. It's definitely better than what I've got now, but I'm currently in California and I would like to get my car Bar'd after. I was only considering the D17 swap because I'm hoping I would not need new motor mounts (Please... correct me if I'm wrong). Also, my car is a 99 so finding an affordable 99+ B16/B18 is hard to come by compared to finding an affordable D17 (01-05).

I guess all I'm really looking to get out of a swap is:
1. Affordability (whole swap for less than $1500)More than stock 108hp
2. Reliability
3. Ability to get it Bar'd
4. More than stock 108hp
5. Something that my 2 brothers, their mechanic friend, and I can do over 2 weekends. Oh and a few 12 packs.
Again, I drive a 99 honda civic DX 2dr

I have a 2000 dx hatchback and put in a 2000 integra LS b18b complete swap (engine, new axles, tranny, ecu, used dc headers, harness, innovative mounts and misc parts) for about $1500 at my door.
I had never done a swap before, only a mini me(vtec head on sohc). And i did the swap in just about 2 weekends. On and off 3 hours on fri 4 hours on sat etc

Ps that reminds me. Why dont you do a mini me?
Put a d16y8 vtec head on your d16y7 non vtec block.
Itll give you vtec and 20 extra hp and you can do it in one day.
Research it theres a lot of writeups on this "mini me"

I will look into the b18b swap because it sounds like the best fit for my situation right now.

any d series motor will bolt on the only thing different is the engine side mount you might need to change the bracket thats it dont waste your money on a b series single cams are just as fast

^^^ i dont know if your being sarcastic or if your serious.
So a stock y8 is just as fast as a stock b18b? (nevermind b18c1/5)
Or a y8 on 8psi is just as fast as a b18b on 8psi?
Anyways check out the mini me since you gotta do the headgasket anyways
