Default Back from hiatus with a question

What's up HT, I've missed you. I'm finally in a position where I'm looking at new bikes and just found one on craigslist last week. Been emailing the guy and he seems really honest so far and I'm going to check it out this week. Stats are;
73 CB750
-26k miles
-Clubman bars
-carbs recently flushed
everything in good condition EXCEPT;
-front pads worn down, come w/the bike
-forks a bit "hoppy"
-exhuast surface rust
-slight rash on engine casing and tank

He's asking $1200 and it's been for sale for a few months. KBB on a 76 is $995. Assuming everything on the bike is in decent running order, what do you think is fair?? I was thinking no lower than $950 but it depends on how it all looks when I check it out.
You guys rock and I'll never cease to come to you with questions.
Oh and for all the Seattle guys I'm finally living in the city so w/any luck I should be able to meet you guys soon and maybe hit up some springtime rides.

Sounds good, I'll keep that in mind. It's been a bitch trying to find an old bike up here, Jesus. It's winter in Seattle, you'd think more people would be selling, you know??

That's what I'm hopin for and that's why I've only been looking for older bikes.
I basically live a mile from downtown and all my commuting is urban. I don't really have a place that I can use the power a sportbike has to offer and don't really want a cruiser so I decided to go w/something w/that loud, in your face style that was gonna get me around and keep me out of trouble lol.

I'd say 700-900 MAX for good condition...Take a good look at the welds along major joins to see if you an see additional cracks, also look for dented or collapsed tubing. You guys getting into older bikes shoule be a tad more keen on the dohc's versus the sohc's. They really started to jump in output when the man. started down that path

DOHC's are ugly

Inspect the frame/brakes/bearings but those bikes are pretty overbuilt and last a long time.

Eff yuo '79-83 best style evAr!

But really, a running & rolling vintage Honda four for a grand is a great start, as long as it isn't bent.

All great advice, thanks guys. And I'd love a DOHC but I've been looking for so long and haven't found crap so I'm "settling" but I think w/the simpler design it'll be easier to play with. Hopefully......

Its easier to find a later one than to find a 73. I'd pay more for a earlier one all else
