Duy got his first bike a yzf 600 for 1500, but it needed allot of work

Main thing is to get a trashed bike for your first bike, least ye be the one doing the trashing

F2's and F3's should be around 2k for a decent bike.

i'd suggest something other than an SV to start--not that it's a bad starter bike (though, it kind of is imo), but you'll never appreciate the SV for what it is if you start on one.

that is true, youll always want to feel what the inline 4 600s are like.

i started on a 2004 f4i and i can say i like my sv more. Doesnt mean i wont be picking up that 05 06 636r that im gonna start saving up for soon.

I started on a 96 YZF600 that I found with low miles and a cracked front fairing (otherwise in great shape)...for $2200.

Ninja 250 for sho
Got mine for $2800, 05 dark blue orange stripe with 360miles only.
after breaking it until 700 finally got tired of it so I sold it back for $2800
I paid for my first service ($200+), insurance, registration, tax.
You will slowly get tired of 250cc because it's slow

Craigslist? I know a lot of rural communities have "swap sheets" where all kinds of motorized vehicles are sold.

I'd recommend an older Japanese bike, anything pre 1985 is pretty good. They are cheap and easy to work on (no fairing, mostly aircooled, simple engine designs). Get something like a CB360 or a Yamaha XS650. Both are aircooled twins with points ignition systems. Another little appreciated fact is that they can be driven safely on gravel and unpaved roads.

Ohio has one of the highest concentrations of motorcycles for sale in the country.

Check the Cleveland Craigslist. That's where I found my bike.

Yeah or 85 to 95 even. There's a lot of stuff of this age for 2k, a lot of bitchin stuff.

my first bike that i ever bought was a 86 ninja 250. it sucked *****. after 2 weeks i got bored

my 2nd bike was a 92 fzr 600cc special edition. $1800.. the engine shitted out on me 3rd day of having it!

my 3rd bike was a 99 CBR F4 that i got for 2900$ with 30+ thousand miles on it.. that bike was a champ!

my 4th bike was a 2001 929rr erion that i got for 4500$

and currently now i own a 03 600rr!

go honda!

for 2 grand i'm sure you can get yourself an f2 or f3 cbr for sure.. do not get a 250cc unless you really suck at riding on two wheels.. and 500cc bikes are just plain ugly!

so go for F2, F3, or an F4... ifyoure lucky you can find a salvage F4i for pretty cheap 2 depending on where you live..

my next bike though is probably gonna be an R1 though i recently got a chance to ride an 06 and i fell in love.. i have pics of all the bikes i owned 2 btw
