If you have an abs light on consistently and you check the code and it says rear wheel sensor, it may not be damaged, but just need to be cleaned. So to check if yours in dirty follow this article and it may solve your problem.

Tools Required:
Ratchet
10mm
Short Extension
Jack
Jack Stands
Wheel Lock
Rag or Paper Towels

1) First start by removing the rear wheel for either passenger or driver side depending on which one you start with. Make sure to support your car on jack stands and not just the jack.

2) Locate the abs wheel sensor which is directly mounted onto the hub closest to the ground.



3) Then remove the one 10mm bolt that holds the cover over the abs sensor circled in yellow.



The Opposite Side



4) What it looks like with the cover off





5) Next remove the two 10mm bolts from the abs sensor bracket to remove the abs sensor, circled in yellow.



6) Here's the abs bracket with one bolt removed.



7) Both bolts removed







8) Mine were pretty clean, but I cleaned them anyways.





9) Follow steps 8 - 1 backwards for re-installation.

Excellent DIY. too bad this wasnt posted a couple of months ago i was having the same problem but it went away eventually lol.

 

Holy rusted as ****, batman. You would probably have to use soap and water to get any metallic (magnetized) flakes off of the sensor. You would probably also want to check your connector and clean the pins as necessary. If you're getting a code, it's unlikely, but still possible that your tone ring is cracked or chipped. Might as well check that while you're at it. But good write-up, nonetheless.

 

i cleaned mine but still getting code. i may have to replace in winter but have to pull bulb out this week to pass inspection than give it another crack at fixing it.

 

how do i reset the box? mine is still throwing code (4-8) RL after a change to a used one.. what tollerance is "OK" with WSM? beginning to think i got a broken sensor from the junkyard..

 

how do you pull the plug off the anti brake? i have a 90 integ and i need to pass inspection also lol

 

The best thing I have found for removing magnetized debris is "duct seal," a elastic putty found in the electrical supply section of any good DIY store such as: =http://www.homedepot.com/p/Gardner-Bender-1-lb-Plug-Duct-Seal-Compound-DS-110/100212441 Just knead up a suitably-sized chunk, press it onto the contaminated object and pull it away with all the debris attached. Don't ask me how to clean the duct seal! (One pkg. of duct seal should last even a very busy pro a lifetime) Duct seal works really well for removing debris from magnetized cup bits and sockets.
