Default Bad Differential?? Mystery Problem, Throw an Idea!

My 97 has a shuddering issue when driven for long amounts of time at consistent speeds. It will shudder in all gears once it has begun under load.

If you push clutch in it revs fine so my guess is tranny/drivetrain related. The axles are seated w/ no noise, bushings fine, Nothing lose, etc..

The Flywheel was suspect for a bit b/c cool down usually stopped problem until today when only my right wheel lost traction twice leaving a muddy drive. The shuddering occurred as soon as the vehicle hit the street!

Once shuddering the more gas, harder the pulse which can be felt by passenger almost as if it were loose lugs. It doesn't vary with turning and is consistent with throttle.

The shudder is not consistent either as it hasn't happened for almost for a month now till today.. It first arose driving through a damn hurricane though not sure it's relevant.

Please help me Identify the crook before I buy something not broke!

is the intermediate shaft bolted down tight? engine mounts ok?

definitely appears to be drivetrain related.

Everything is nice and tight, spent a good half hour prodding around the underside.. Mounts all in good shape.

Has anyone else experienced a bad differential to compare problems?

if by shuddering you mean shakeing or vibration, then yes, i am still trying to figuire out what is wrong, i have a m2b4 lsd trans and the car shakes when accelerating, between 35 and 55 mph, only when accelerating, and i have changed axles many times and even ordered dss custom shorter axles thinking it was axle bind, and still shakes. but now i am gonna switch out the trans and see what happens.

ive seen an axle cause this problem several times at my shop even when it looks ok and doesnt make noise. differentials are really just gears - not likely to go bad, plus the vibration would get worse when turning

inspect the axles for play or binding with the wheel at lock both ways, and start by replacing whichever one seems worse

yes you can use an earlier trans but you need to switch some sensors i believe, and no you cannot use an sh trans.

shuddering under load could be related to spark......depending on the kind of shuddering you are talking about

but if it's suspension/drivetrain related.....i've also heard of axle's being the problem like someone mentioned earlier
