Ideal rpm to slip\dump the clutch in a GS-R
I'm bringing my 97 gs-r to the track soon and was wondering if anyone could give me a few pointers on when the ideal time is to slip or dump the clutch. Ive seen some people say to do it in VTEC but I will spin like a bastard and probably bounce. I have stock suspension with an AEM CAI and a DC Sports cat-back.
Feel free to post your launching techniques.

This is what you're supposed to do technically speaking. I cut and pasted this from an older post that I wrote:
Hope that helped a little. Now I know launching right under your peak torque sounds real high. You might say, "I'll just spin, that can't be right." Trust me, it's right. Slip the clutch fast. You might bog. You might stall. You might spin.....practice makes perfect.
You are never supposed to just dump the clutch (let go). You'll just spin your wheels and get horrible 60ft times.
Here's what you do, it depends on your peak torque rpm level and the power you're producing:
You're supposed to rev up to right under your peak torque rpm. Say your peak torque is at 6800rpm. Rev up to about 6K and hold it there. I know it's high, but that's the technical way to do it at the track. Of course, on the street it's slightly different because this technique wears your clutch faster.
When the light is at the yellow right before the green, you go. You want to slip the clutch fast. You don't want to let go of it too fast or too slow. You want to keep the rpm's steady and have it rise to your peak torque. If they dip too much, you'll bog. If you give it too much gas, you'll spin too much. It's very hard to do perfectly. That's why 60ft's are the hardest to get good.
You can do this on the street too (reving to under peak torque and slipping the clutch fast). Unfortunately, slipping the clutch at that high of an rpm isn't too healthy for a clutch.
Practice in a parking lot and see what happens. On street tires and stock suspension, you can get pretty close to a 2.0sec 60ft.
EDIT: Even on slicks, you don't want to really drop your clutch that high. You'll spin with those too. I guess if you want to, and you have an AWD car, then you can just drop the clutch. Hehe

man set your tire pressure around 20 and just dump the clutch you still have a basically stock GSR your not going to spin that bad just dont drop the clutch at 8k, try 6k or even 6500. if that doesnt work for you (which it should) then learn how to feather the clutch. I have always liked it better when you just drop the clutch and I always got 2.2 60 ft in my friends GSR with I/H/E

how do you know what's your peak torque rpm? I have a B16A2.
EDIT: If it's stock...hehe.

no matter what you do if you want a good 60ft your going to have some wheel spin, the cars not just going to hook up and go, unless hes using slicks, i spin my tires pretty much threw 1st gear and still get 2.2 60ft times (street tires).

I ran my hybrid with h/e only and had 2.5 60 foots on street tires at full pressure, 32psi. I know I need to work on my launch technique as well. It did run a 15.1 at 93 mph though using Falken Ziex 195/50's on steelies.
Not bad for a sleeper, hehe

I've attempted dumping the clutch at around 5 grand once and my front wheels started spinning + bouncing, it was kinda shitty. I'll just keep on practicing and make perfect

I think it is different in each car depending on driver, tires, suspension and weight/power. I have a 92 CX, gsr, putting down around 165 to the wheels. I launch the car on the street in between the cam switch and the secondary vtec. I feel that if you launch and the secondaries pop you are going to get too much wheel spin, but if you dont lauch in vtec you are going to bog down. It may take some practice, and a little feathering of the gas, but I have had good luck with this approach. I am going to the track tomnorrow, I will let you know how i do...
I'm confused.....how do you get VTEC off the line when it requires a speed signal to activate??? I thought it had to be going eg. 20 mph to activate unless, like me, your activating it artificially....
