How to launch??
rev it out until you hit your rev limiter and dump the clutch on that biotch!!!!!!!!!!

Generally most people take it anywhere between 3-5k and feather the clutch off a launch. There are many factors in determining what kind of launch to use.

this is my way, but i'm open to any advices, tips, or opinion.
At the starting line, i usually ease off the clutch to the point that it's almost stall out the car. then i rev it to 3k and just let off the rest of the clutch. that what i usually do at street races, but on the track, i'm clueless.
I did this last night (I got a 95 gsr intake, header, cat-back), racing my boy RSX-S (intake & cat-back on 18in.) but as soon as i let off the clutch, the tire spin a little bit, then took off. but at 4k, the car hesitate a little and then it keep pulling through 7.8k. I chirp second on (17in wheel). But i still lose to him like 1 and a half of a car length. We start off even. i hit vtec first but as soon as he hit vtec, his car is 1/2 a car length ahead, in second, he was a full car length and keep pulling for another 1/2 a car length. Is this normal, should a 95 gsr with my mod lose to a RSX-S with his mod by that much???

Who should win is an entirely different issue that I honestly don't care to discuss. If your car is hesitating off the launch then you aren't giving it enough gas - you're bogging the launch.
if you want a clean launch....bring it to about 2500 to 2700 rpm and then when ur ready to go just let go of the clutch
Here's my procedure, from another post... bear in mind, I'm not a good driver yet... but this is what I've developed so far... after 5 trips to the drag strip.
Here's my launching procedure...
#1. Avoid the burn-out box...
#2. pull up to light up the first staging light...
#3. rev up to 4500 or so... (I kinda bounce around there, 4,300-5,200, experimenting)
#4. LIIIIIGHTLY let off the clutch just enough to pull you forward to slight up the 2nd set of lights...
#5. watch lights go 1, 2, on 3... sidestep (drop) the clutch...
I'm still learning, but this launch is getting me consistent 2.3 60'.
I am trying to figure out how to get 2.2's on my stock tires.

On street tires,
it really depends on your setup, if you have an allmotor car, its easier to play with the Lauinch rpms... stay over 3K in any occasion to prevent boggin at the line. but dont go too high like 6K because you'll just spin the tires too much/
In turbo cars, its a bit more sensitive becuase of the huge power at the wheels at launch. keep in mind the turbo needs some rpms as well to get it boosting early.
Basic idea is to feather the gas as you feel the car hooking up and moving forward at a good pace. Its all just practice and getting the feel of your own car.
I have about 400+ passes on the 1/4 mile and hundreds of street race launching experience. and sometimes high RPMS just isnt the solution to a good launch. I have launched as low as 2800rpm on a semi-dusty road and it still launched good. You just have to anticipate the Tire Spin possibility on each conditions that you race at.
ON slicks its totally different though hehe. Just dump the clutch at 7K and dont forget to shift to second cuz there wont be a tire a spinnin' hehe

In my car on stock 14s, I would launch at 5K, and bog the launch, I'd run 10.2 in the 1/8. Next run, I launched at 6K, didn't bog, but the tires did spin a bit and the rpms stayed above 6K the entire time. Ran a 9.51 in the 1/8th and a 60' time of 2.29. I don't know how people launch at such low rpm and still get good times.

anything lower than 4000 is too low for a GsR.. i launch between 4700-5000 for the best times.. anything lower and you;ll bog off the line(something to do with launching at peak torque).. some tires spin is good.. if your wheel hopping you'll have to feather the clutch a bit.. http://www.angelfire.com/il/nanaa/et.htm<- my GsR's Timeslips: track conditions, mods, launch patterns etc..

I have had some consistancy launching at 3500-4000k. Experiment and see what feels comfortable with you. Feather the clutch and keep your rpms above 6000k through your shifts.

Another bit of advice for everyone trying to improve their launch... Get Energy Suspension motor mount inserts, it will do you a wonder of good getting off the line without so much wheel hop.
but back to the original point, the way i race my boy rsx-s, is the amount i lost to him normal or i can do better and anyone with any tips, feel free to post it
My technique is to rev to around 4500 rpm and let the clutch out quickly, without sidestepping it. If I seem to be getting too much wheelspin I let off a bit, but not much. Basically I try to hold the rpm at 5k or so until I get traction, then floor it.
One thing I have found is that wheel hop seems to be much worse if the rpms start to drop (with the wheels spinning) and I have to give it more gas to keep them up. Therefore if I have to let off the gas a bit because of too much spin I try not to get back into the throttle until the wheels stop spinning or I have to shift.

Feather it from 5500 or so.Keep it on the verge of spinning but controled.I am looking at a time slip from my old Type r and here is what happens.60 ft times are sometimes not what they are all cracked up to be,or atleast on street tires they aren't.
2.21 2.36
14.2@98 14.0@100.5
I am looking at those 2 runs right now.The 2.20 was slower due to the fact the car got better traction and it cut my trap speed down a bit.Of course idealy you would want a really good 60ft but I never wanted to break anything so I stuck with street tires(sp9000's)
Just get out and fool around, see what works best for you.

i launch at 5000 rmps...i let off of the clutch to where its about to engage...then i do this feather/dump thing...i get 2.1 60 ft's on dunlops sp w-10's.
Just rev to 3500 and feather the clutch. Works like a charm!! Tires spin and stop spinning right when the car hits vtec.
Works for me
5000 is way to high.

Only one person has mentioned wheel hop in this entire thread! My whole launch is awful because with my LSD and these S03s, it seems the more traction I get the more hop I get. If I dump at ANY rpm i get massive wheel hop and its worse in the rain for some reason. Im forced to slip it which isnt as fast as I know I could launch. My best 60' time w/o the LSD was 2.3 now the best I can muster is a weak 2.2 with my LSD. I know I should be getting much better. I feel I got far less wheel hop with the crapier Michelins. I think the sticker the street tire the more hop.
Ive tried dumping at high rpm (6k), low rpm (2k), mid rpm (4k), high tire pressure (35psi), low tire pressure (20psi). Nothing but wheel hop. Good god my GSRs turned into a rabit! Slipping is the only way I can launch with any amount of tire spin while avoiding wheel hop. But I dont like slipping. Its eating my clutch and its slow.
Whats the secret to mastering wheel hop? And yes Im looking into Z10 radius arms.

if your on the track..lower the compression on your tires...and bring your rpms up to 4000-4500...right below vtec...semi pop the clutch but ride it a little bit until you gain full traction. By the time you get traction..you should be in vtec... practice this and you will smoke everyone off the line!
