neither...ls/v = junk

sell the vtec head and use that towards bosting the straight b18b1

the b18b1 is alot more reliable, especially under boosting conditions.

you can boost on stock internals...proper fuel management and tuning is key though

if you have high mileage, it wouldn't hurt to do a rebuild though and freshen things up

yea you're golden

boost it for sure...skip the ls/v....more than likely you would waste that 40,000 mile motor real quick with a mediocre conversion using a vtec head....no sense in blowing up a low mileage motor

how is too broad? IMO it is junk any way you look at it (whether from a cost standpoint or reliability standpoint, or even performance standpoint)

ls/v used to be a half assed alternative to a full vtec swap based on the cost comparison, but nowadays you can get a gsr swap for cheap

add to the fact that 95% of the kids that build these setups cheap out and just put a vtec head on there for their budget unrelaible build, and that forms the general consensus that an ls/vtex setup is junk...but hey, that money they saved can go to cool z3 fenders, aluminum wings, cracked unpainted bodykits, etc

sure, you can build one powerful and reliable, but by that point you have spent WAY more than if you could have bought a vtec swap and added the standard bolt ons, if not headwork or other machining, without piecing together some ghetto "hybrid"...

it's like anything else: how much money do you want to blow?

around my parts, ls blocks go really cheap. so an lsv can still be put together for less than a c1 swap.

If assembled correctly and LS/VTEC can be reliable...the same goes for a turbo setup. If you were to piece together a good setup and have someone tune it reliably, you shouldn't have any issues. Definitely invest in some ARP rod bolts...

for the amount of money you would spend to make it "reliable", you could have bought something with that reliability out of the box already AND upgraded that platform to be more powerful than the ls/v you wasted all your time and money on just to get reliability.
