Default lower ball joint question please help

Hi,
I have been hearing a clunk noise when I turn the steering wheel all the way left. It is just one loud clunk, and mostly just happens when I back up since the steering wheel turns all the way to the end. I took off the tire to take a look, and I noticed my lower ball joint has a lot of grease and dirt if I look under the fold of the boot. I don't think that is normal? I tried to take a picture, but it didn't come out good. I am not sure if it is torn at the bottom; its hard to see.

I replaced my upper control arms a couple months ago. Also, my cv joints should be fine because they were replaced a couple years ago.

Any ideas? Do you think the lower ball joint is bad?

Thanks for any help
