s2k soft top noob problems
one day after school i noticed one of the bars in my top was bent. i straightened it up by pushing on it and now the top folds just halway. i bent it back up and the top folds fine but the glass sits on the arcs behind the headrests and it rattles when i drive. anyone have any advice? i have an 01 s2k
i actually met the previous owner of the car and he said he did do a top swap coz someone slashed his original one
. when i bought the car, the bar was fine and the top folded nicely. i'll post pics up after work..

If it aint broke dont try to fix it. Was there any problems besides it being bent? some of the bars aren't all straight

well.. because it was bent, the rear glass sat on the arcs behind the headrests. it rattles whenever i drive the car. im no expert, but im pretty sure its not supposed to do that. im guessing the bar got hit by a football, since i vaguely remember seeing people throwing a football around my car
still workin on the pics. havent had time to actually go out and snap some shots.

you really think a inflated football is going to dent your soft top frame? hell no. unless it was brett farve and the packers having a 7 on 7 drill in you highschool parking lot...
the 00-01 soft top frame was designed for a plastic rear window. the guy you bought it from probally took the the time to retrofit a 02-03 replacement top onto his 00-01.
correct me if i'm wrong, but don't most people who do that kind of swap, swap frames as well BECAUSE it is such a PITA? most likely, the guy had to improvise to make it fit, hence WHY it doesn't fit that well, and why there are random bent parts. and the noise is from your strikers. replace that **** kuz.

you got a point there.. i should ask the guy how exactly he did the swap.
i guess im just gonna get a hardtop soon if its gonna cost the same to fix it.

i'll be easy.
a hardtop is going to cost you at least 2x-3x as much as either swapping top and frames, or getting a new top. they aren't even close to being the same price.
you're looking at the difference between $400-800 for fixing your top situation... to 2,500 - 3,000 for a complete hardtop.

i think complete OEM hardtops go for that much, but not all. i know a place around here that sells CF hardtops for 900$ + glass/hardware to install for 850$ more. i haven't seen it in person yet so i can't give a review on fitment. when i stop being lazy, ill go check it out. (its the one on ebay thats mugen style, about an hour drive away from me)
as for the retrofitted glass top situation, to fully convert it to the 02+ glass top it will cost about 1000$ if u do the work yourself i believe. to replace the glass with the plastic window, itll be way less since there aren't many buyers for it + many sellers.

correct, i was referring to the oem or mugen hardtops. personally for me, i wouldnt mess with anything else. but yes, please go check it out if you have time, take pictures even
i think it would be cool to see a good knock-off for a change...i have heard so many bad things about many...
and as far as the glass soft top situation... i was calulating the price for him to fully covert MINUS the parts he sells that he has left over.

i called the site today and they told me the manufacturer is Cwings for the hardtop, they do not do pickup, only shipping because it is shipped to address from manufacturer.. so after everything's said and done, a new Cwings hardtop is just a bit over 2000$.
the thing that I personally don't trust is the fact that it is FIBER GLASS, which we all know isn't as sturdy as carbon fiber or aluminum(thats OEM ht metal right?)
It does look pretty good though as far as fitment, but i'd much rather shell out the extra money for an authentic mugen or CF replica.
