Easiest way to replace clutch
I'm replacing the clutch in my 90 CRX HF. Its stock and i was just wondering the easiest way to drop that tranny out. tilt motor? take the whole thing out? Whats the easiest way?

I found out a good trick is to get 3-4 inches of solid round metal stock and put them in the tranny bolt holes when your putting the tranny back on the motor, you have the metal stock to help guide the tranny in the right why. Took like 30min-1hr time off when I was replacing my clutch. Goodluck

That's how I was taught to do it. Out the bottom and back in the bottom.

Okay, really - you wind up taking a couple of the motor mounts off to be able to move the engine enough. As you obviously found out there is no room down there. I even did a clutch in a Prelude where I just moved the trans far enough to get to the pressure plate bolts, never actually pulled the trans out of the car.

You probably want bolts that are longer than stock, though. The whole point of this is to better guide the pilot shaft into the clutch. And I don't know that the stock bolts are long enough to actually hold the transmission with the pilot shaft out of the clutch.

true, thats possible. What diameter metal stock would be best for a semi-snug fit?
You probably want bolts that are longer than stock, though. The whole point of this is to better guide the pilot shaft into the clutch. And I don't know that the stock bolts are long enough to actually hold the transmission with the pilot shaft out of the clutch.</TD></TR></TABLE>

yes. If you remove the radius rod, you will have ALOT more room to work with when you put it back in....good luck......

I'm not sure but go to your local hardware store and take a tranny bolt with you and get the size smaller then the bolt. You want the rods to be still sticking out of the block 3-4inches.

Also, you don't want the fit to be too snug. This will make getting the rods through the bolt holes every bit as hard as stabbing the pilot shaft in the first place. Just cutting the heads off long bolts should be fine. Also, you don't want the bolts to be TOO long, as there may not be enough room between the tail of the transmission and the passenger side frame rail.
