From what I've read, to achieve a poor man's r you must pnp a PR3 b16head with type r internals... And slap it on a gsr block. This is what I have concluded from searching, I think I'll be doing the same thing.

You could really try a search, but heres goes take a b16b or b16a head with type r internals(itr/ctr[ted better on intake cam]) and mate with a b18c1 (gsr) block. Type r heads are slightly ported larger than b16's also, but not significantly.

If you get a type r bottom why not just get the whole motor?

if you have 4 grand to drop sure, get the actual deal. there is a reason why they call it a poor man's type R. for roughly half the cost of an ITR block, you could have yourself a decent N/A motor.

no, you need a gsr block and a b16 head.

yes it will work, yes it will bolt right up, and yes it will lower your compression. Some people prefer the stock p72 head because of the secondaries in the manifold which delivers a little more low-mid range power.

pr3 b16 heads are the same casting as ITR's minus the minor port work on the intake side and more aggressive head package. You don't have to pnp and get the ITR package to have a poor man's R. Stock b18c/1 blocks are identical to R's minus the rods and pistons, pistons have a higher dome which bumps compression depending on head.
