89 civic si *engine dies*???
i drive my car and when i stop at a stop light or just stop at all it'll stall out and die. the check engine light, and bettery light comes on also. i've tried to read the code on my ecu, but it seems to never stop blinking. when is there a pause in the blinking lights so i can tell if it's a long blink or short blink?
just wondering if this engine problem has happened to anyone else so i dont have to search around.
OH YEA ITS A STOCK MOTOR.

I'm having the same problem. with some hesitation and stuttering too this it what i've done so far. changed plugs, wires and dist cap. new o2 sensor needed it anyway. getting good spark too. then i checked the fuel pump because when it dies it sowly shuts off like it's starving for gas and found that the fuel pump isn't turning on checked it out and think thats my problem if you could check that out and let me know if it's the same thing. and the ecu kept blinking too like yours is doing just unplug the battery connection and it should stop. in my reserch our cars don't have long blinks so just count the short ones let me know what u get.
yea i got new plugs, dist. cap, rotor, but i didnt get new plug wires that might be it?
like you said though it stutters before it dies like it wants gas, and when it is about to die i try pressing on the gas and theres just no power at all. do you have that problem also?
oh yea but does your check engine light turn on from time to time when your driving? also the battery light?

Try resetting the ECU by pulling the hazard fuse under the hood for 15 seconds, then replacing it. Run the car until it happens again, then try to pull the code. There should be pauses between multiple codes. A short blink is for 1 and a long blink is for 10. Try to read the code and compare it to the ones listed in the FAQ.
My guess would be an ignition coil, igniter, or main relay. Only one way to tell though...
Try to read the code and report back.

I fixed my problem ended up being a bad ground on the fuel pump. it would let me start up and idle fine but once i started driving the vibrations shook it and would kill the fuel pump thats why i was stalling out. check it out althought you'll have to drop the tank to do a continuity test on the wires.. hope that helps good luck
