ever since ive boosted ive noticed my oil consumption has increased.
before boost i would change the oil every 5000 km at which time i would still have a significant amount of oil, but after 2000km of boost and a fresh oil change at the time of the turbo install, i notice my oil level was very low. because i had only done 2000km i dint see a reason to change the filter again (i dont think it could have got dirty that fast) so i just added 2 litres of oil. well its about 4000km and i had a feeling the oil would be getting low again so i was just going to go in for an oil change. my mechanic was busy the day i wanted to go in so over this past weekend i drove around a bit boosting quite frequently, and i started hearing a noise around 4000rpm, if i revved higher it would stop, so i just ignored it and kept driving.. on monday i dint drive my car but on tuesday i took it out for a drive and now by 2000 rpm i hear a fluttering noise which is quite similar to the noise i heard on another car i had before i blew the motor. in that other car it was diagnosed that i had a bearing failure and because i kept driving after i heard the noise i first chewed up the crank and the violent piston movement also started eating away at the cylinder walls and that engine was basically kaput. (but that car was NA, not sure if that matters or not)

so right now i dont really know what the problem is with my car, and without taking the engine apart i guess i would not really know but thats gonnna run me some serious $$ and im not prepared to do a total rebuild yet.

assuming that my oil levels were low could it be possible i had a bearing failure and if so can it be accessed/fixed without removing the motor, possibly by removing the oil pan??

....and im not driving the car anymore i dont want it to get worse..

 

so youre basically saying you knew the car was really low on oil, and istead of filling it up since you couldnt get an oil change you just beat the **** out of it with no oil?

Sounds like this turbo s2000 at the shop...owner must of never checked the oil, it started knocking and shipped it down. I went and drained the oil..and it had about 30oz. in it.

I dropped the pan and he spun #2rod..and took out all the mains and rods too.

You have to check oil levels on a turbo car a little more often then a na car.

I kind of found that out the hard way. I had an oil leak that i didnt notice, but soon enough the engine told me it was low... I spun a rod bearing and now have to rebuild...

well i put in another litre i figured it was fine for a few more days..

yes ill be sure to check the oil levels more closely once i fix the problem, i guessed i just learned an important lesson the hard way..

so were u able to fix the problem by dropping the pan or did u have to remove the entire motor?

same question to u as the person above, now that u have to rebuild will that require the same labour as a total rebuild or is there a quick bearing fix vial removal of the oil pan?
