Default power steering problem

Well some of you might have seen my motor I got about 2 weeks ago that had the head full of gunk/old oil. Well I got a new motor from them and finally finished the swap this past weekend and got it running first try. I've finally got the kinks figured out (clutch bled, I welded a new downpipe to match the h22a header and all the vac lines hooked up). Everything is great and runs perfect.

My only problem is that when I sit at idle and turn the wheel left and right, the steering wheel seems to vibrate. I checked my power steerting fluid and its topped off and the belt isn't loose (there's some slack, but maybe its on too tight?). When I drive around it the rpm's are above idle, the problem is gone. I didnt open the ps lines at all, so I'm not sure if/how air got in. Anyone have any suggestions/advice? I already searched, but I really couldn't find anything like my problem.

Thanks

here's a pic of my car in my garage right after finishing the swap

I didnt have that problem but yes it maybe too tight....mine was loose so it squeaked....tighted it up just enough so it turned smooth..

When your driving lets say 40 and turn does it vibrate at all..?

And i know that if you rev pretty high while turning....the belt can come off....

My buddy has a 92 prelude JDM h22a....and his poped out and he lost it...so to save you trouble better loose than tight if you ask me!

the steering wheel doesnt shake at all when driving...problem seems to be only at stand still at idle...im thinking its just my steering rack telling me its about to die real soon

So let me get this straight.....you turn the wheel at idle and with your hand still putting pressure on it you're getting feedback to the wheel?

If so, the only explanation of that I can imaging is a failing valve body, maybe something faulty in the pressure bleed/release setup. Don't ask me how to fix it though, that valve body is ridiculously complicated inside.

basically, when i turn the wheel back and forth at idle, the steering wheel shakes, kinda like when you have bad rotors and you're coming to a stop...but the ps still works cus i can turn it easily...i just went for a drive and it feels like its coming back to normal...guess i'll just keep an eye on it

I was thinking it could be some air deep in the system or the rack....hopefully it will go away after a few days.

im curious cus i cant think of any possibilities, but how do you think air got in without me taking the ps apart? random air bubble? haha

but thanks guys i'll see what happens in the next couple of days...

OT: does the h22a usually have a loud valvetrain? sounds just like my f20c in my s2k haha

Hold on, so you never even removed the ps lines from the pump at all? I doubt its air then.....odd

The valve adjustment tool is crucial, doing it without one would be ridiculous. My brother owns the one I have access to, if you need it I bet he'd loan it out. We're in NC btw.

Are you sure that turning the steering wheel is not just bringing the RPMs down to a point that the engine is shaking? Turning the wheel at idle will bring the RPMS down a little bit and if the idle is set too low it could be causing the vibrations you are experiencing.

def not the rpm's dropping...ive felt it bog before and it doesnt vibrate as much as my steering wheel...it seriously felt like braking with bad rotors or unblananced tires, but its slowly going away...hopefully it does completely..

Why do you need PS anyway? Remove it. Less stuff to break, lighter, more power, better acceleration...

2¢, Sorry if I'm no help...
