Default ?'s on mini me swap

okay you cant flame me i am new here but yet i did search around before asking. well i was wondering how much horsepower i would gain from doing a mini me swap for my 93 dx hatch and if it would be worth the time and money to do this swap or if i should just try and hold off and just buy a b18 because for now i am just wanting a little gain and when i do the mini me swap will be doin a trans swap to a manul si/ex transmission okay thanks

does your motor use oil or anything? you can get a full mini me for around $200. all you need is the head and ecu...you could pick up the intake manifold and throttle body but you dont necessarily need them. i would have done the mini me on my d15b8 but my rings were shot. lol i used alot of oil so i swapped the whole motor. but yes...they are worth the little bit of money and time, especially with an ex/si tranny. a friend had a mini me me that ran somewhere around 14's.

im not sure what it was exactly...i know it was a jdm block but im not sure about the head. i think it was z6 head, jdm d15b block...but not sure about the rest. i know it wasn't stock though. but there is a mini me thread on here...i tried to find it but cant seem to right now. it tells you exactly how to do it and shows his time on the mini-me after it was completed. a mini me has more power than a d16z6 or d16y8...because of the high compression ratios. they are good builds because you can hold your own against gsr's if you build it the right way. but i would definitely do it. good luck man on your choice...whatever it is. keep us updated.

yeah my hatch was pretty slow too. lol but i would use a z6 head if you could because i heard that the combustion chambers are smaller so you can get more compression out of the z6 head. but you can use either one and all that will measure up to be one good setup man. good luck.

12.45 hp.

Seriously, it depends on a bunch of factors - but you're looking at a 10 - 30 HP bump which, if you have $300 into the head swap (with all the parts) that comes out to $10 - $30 per HP, which is a good deal considering (and people may argue with this, I'm not trying to start an SRI/CAI/Stock discussion) the 1-3 hp bump you'll get from a CAI/SRI & filter that'll run you $50 to $200.

Plus, it'll give you an excuse to do your timing belt and water pump and change the coolant so that D-series is able to spend a few more years haulin' groceries.

i belive my father already replaced the water pump more something i would have to ask him but not at home sitting in my computer class lol but yea thanks for you help but yea now why is the z6 head "better" so to speak cause the compression ratio and i know you can make a thin head gasket and what not out of a y8 gasket but yea not 110 percent sure on were i wanna take this or if its gonna be a waste and not gonna get the speed i want cause top end wise i wanna do about 130 just cause it doesnt look like it could go that fast though or would i need to just buy more stuff even if it goes 120 would be nice since thats all the faster my old car went and that was a four door buick century (1989) lol

The y8 head will allow you to bolt on your OBDI DX distributor (if I remember correctly someone call me on this if I'm wrong), the Z6 head will require a Z6 dizzy. The Y8 Has better quench zones and chamber design. The Z6 has a better port design - straight through, as opposed to economy tumble ports. The Y8 will give you higher compression then the Z6 with may or may not be where you want to be for a DD.

Check out http://www.d-series.org, there's a boatload of info there on heads and mini-me swaps as well.

No problem.

Alternately (and I realize this is bad form - feel free to ignore me advertising my own crap) I'll trade you for my B-swapped EF.
