honda accord motor swap
i bought a 90 accord exr, the timing belt let go, i found a motor at the wreckers for cheaper then it would be to repair the bent valves, my question is what is the differnence in the motor's a1/a4 my motor is the a4, and the one i'd like to put in thier is a a1
Did a google search and found this, hope it helps.
Max power
* F22A1: 125 hp (93 kW) @ 5200 rpm
* F22A4: 130 hp (97 kW) @ 5200 rpm
* F22A6: 140 hp (104 kW) @ 5600 rpm
Max torque:
* F22A1: 137 ft·lbf (186 N m) @ 4000 rpm
* F22A4: 142 ft·lbf (193 N m) @ 4000 rpm
* F22A6: 142 ft·lbf (193 N m) @ 4500 rpm
Just a slight difference in hp and torque.

yeah thanks, that does help, i think the only difference between the two is the intake manifold, and the fuel mapping, so if i change over the intake manifold i think it should be fine.
The A1 & A4 have the exact same block and head. Swap in the A1 block and head from the bone yard and your right back to where you started. You may even come out on the plus side depending on how many Km on the bone yard block.
Are you able to start the salvaged engine to hear it run before you rip into it?

no unfortunately not, someone already stole the distributor, car has 220km on it, about the same as mine, i plan to do a compression test while im thier, if i could i would do leak down, but that's not gonna be possible.

Today i threw a belt on it so i could see if and how bad the valves were bent, i manualy turned it over and it felt pretty good, so just for fun i put the wires back on and it seems to run fine, i thought this was a interferance motor i can't belive my luck, i didn't run it that long cause i had no coolant in it but from the 20sec i ran it, it ran okay.
This was a friends car and he replaced the water pump about a year ago it seems to be okay, the timing belt was also replaced, but he neglected to tighten the tensioner bolt, thats why the timing belt went, i don't have any coolant because i drained it planning to remove the head. But i don't think i'll be doing that anymore.

You should run a compression test on each cylinder to verify that they are all within spec. Although low compression does not always mean that you have bent valves. If you are going to reuse that head make sure you check the oil level on a regular basis for the first few weeks. And watch for hints of burnt oil in your exhaust
