Its a 91 civic hatch with a jdm b16 obd0. Car will not start I have swapped out the ecu, battery fully charged, the check engine light is on but it is not throwing no codes. please help and give me some ideas on what it might be.

 

could it be possible that the main relay or distributer is bad? it just cranks

 

Im confused. You say the CEL is on but its not throwing any codes. The only time it will come on is when there is a code.

First thing you need to check is why its not starting. Meaning is a fuel or electrical problem?

If it was the main relay, then you wouldn't hear the fuel pump prime when turning the key to ACC.

 

Check the main relay. If the CEL is on but no codes then it may be the main relay. Easiest way to check this is the main relay controlls the fuel pump, so go to your fuel filter on your firewall. There is a bleeder bolt on top of the main bolt towards the driver side (its a 12mm). Open the bleeder, close it, then try to start the car. Now go open it again. If the main relay/ fuel pump is good, then you will have pressure. If not, no pressure.

 

I know its weird cel is on but no codes! its a buddy of mines car he said it done this before but it would start eventually

 

Alright so I checked to see if it has fuel and it doesn't! So that could be the main relay right?

 

I checked the main relay and it is good. How do I test the fuel pump to see if it works?

 

I have a fuel pressure gauge hooked up and there is not pressure at all, it is hooked up through the fuel filter. Is there a way to test before I replace it?

 

STATUS: Just checked I have no spark also and no fuel, the battery is charged, the check engine light is on but no flashing on the ecu, no blown fuses, main relay is good I tested it like the Haynes manual said. What is there left to check i'm out of ideas. Is there a way to check if it is getting power?

You said main relay is good but no fuel pressure? Your fuel pump is probably bad. As far as the spark problem, worry about the fuel first. For some reason I lost my spark when I wasn't getting fuel. I fixed the fuel problem and voila the engine had spark again. It sounds weird yes but just get your feul problem fixed. Try the fuel pump.

 

subscribed... have the same problem with my b16 obd-0 in my 88 CRX. Im guessing its the fuel pump because I dont hear it priming.

 

I went to go try to start the car today and it started!! I did nothing at all to just went out there and it started. So I drove around the block and it just died and would not start again so I had push it home. So what could that be?

 

in my professional opinion its a

FAULTY MAIN RELAY!!!!!

it controls power to the distributor (spark) and to the fuel pump (gas!)

This is an easy test.

Turn key on, do not start
lights in cluster come on

Engine light goes off - good relay
Engine light stays on - bad relay

if the light stays on try cranking the engine over while "beating" on the "dash" right under your left knee. Sometimes this will make the relay make contact.

i've seen MANY relays go bad

 

i had this same problem with my car but it was just a bad ground. the ground on or by the water neck for the bottom radiator hose. it was loose so i tightened it and it started right up. well hope u figure out the problem

 

Some one told me that it possible could be the ignition has gone bad could some hting like that cause this to happen?
