Default 95 Honda Civic.. need advice in buying

I'm looking for a decent DD to replace my 1987 BMW 325 that I'm about to part out. I'm looking to pick up a decent E30 in the future though, when the right one comes up (it's hard to find a 20+ car in the shape you want). In the mean time I want something that is economic, fun, and good on gas. I’m used to go-kart type suspension on my old bmw and I've heard good things about early model Honda civics with their wishbone suspension. Possibly the best it gets as far as front wheel drive is concerned??

I'm going to take a look at this tomorrow:

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.o....html

3350 obo
95 Honda Civic white
Password Jdm Smoked Markers New
Password Jdm Fogs New
Tein full coilovers
Skunk2 Short Shifter
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
Spoon Sports sturt bars and tie bars
Apexi Header
Apexi n1
Apexi Rev controller
Aem Intake
New timing belt
New water pump
New plugs and wires
New Head gasket
New rad
Red gt3s with brand new tires
Integra Wheels with new snow tires

I kind of want to stay away from moding, as I want to be saving money.. but hell, Honda parts are cheap compared to bimmers, so If I can get a decent 5spd like the one above.. Why not?

What am I looking at with that mod list? I have no idea if those are quality parts or not. I'm not one to put shitty parts on my car. If I'm going to do something, you do it right... so does it look like this guy knows what he was doing from that list or is it just another ricer?

the engine has 135K on it... how does that sound? All the engine maintenance parts such as the timing belt and head gasket were done around 90K by the previous owner (considering its by word of mouth, I would say 80k). Would I be getting an engine thats about to **** some bricks at 135k. or could it make it to 200k?

Anything I should be looking for when I check the car out?
Any info is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Jon

those are all quality expensive parts. you dont have to worry about a honda motor shitting out on you they last as long as you keep up with the oil changes and what not. thats a decent price too.

It looks good and those are good quality parts. You definately dont need to worry about the motor quitting. Keep up the proper maintenance and drive it right and itll last a long time. I just sold my 88' CRX with 235,000 miles and it was still running strong. Hondas are great cars.

Anyone know how the car handles in comparison to a RWD car?
Also, what motor is in there and how many RPM's can I push?

Since I already need 93 octane gas with the maifold he has, I might as well get a chip..How much does a quality chip cost and whats the brand name?

thanks a ton

From the looks of those parts, it should handle great, but then again, youll never know until you drive it. I wouldnt go for a "chip" personally, but thats all you. You may be surprised when you drive it. Is i already slightly modded. You also dont have to run 93 octane in it. Plenty of people run 87 in their hondas. Im not sure about the rev limit question though, but im guessing the "Apexi Rev controller" may have changed the limit froom the stock one on your ecu. you may have to ask the owner.

I really wouldn't Chip it or anything it looks like a Great DD and gas saver but that motor looks like a D15 Correct me if I'm wrong but its not a motor to go crazy over and wont last long beating on it ya its got some parts on it but with the Intake manifold on it I'm sure it gets better gas mileage on it just dont try to push that thing lol those motors dont hold up very well

First off, make sure the guy you're dealing with is a legit guy. The guage cluster on a Civic can be swapped out in less than a minute, which means the miles could be inaccurate. I once had a guy try to sell me a Civic with a different cluster that had 145k miles. I'm sure the car actually had tons more.

Also, aftermarket mods do not add any value to the vehicle, IMO. I'd rather buy a stock car over a modded one any day of the week.

If you're still looking to get this, make sure the maintenance has been kept up. If it has, it'll go 300k without any major issues.

Also, $3350 for a 14 year old car is pretty steep. I'd go much lower.

Lastly, I wouldn't waste any money on power upgrades on this current engine. Personally, I would take out the header, intake and exhaust, sell them, and put the money towards a motor swap (see sticky at the top of this sub-forum). Chip, intake, exhaust etc. aren't going to do ANYTHING in the single OHC 1.5L engine.

Side note, I had a 90 E30 325is a while back. Great car. Wish I still had it.

Hey the car looks good, the parts on it are not super expensive but all look good quality parts. Personally look for, engine problems. headgasket=loss of coolant/any signs of past overheating, also check for Anycolor smoke at higher Rpms, basic things. Check car fax for the heck of it, make sure all the Vins on enginebay, title, doors match. Good luck
