Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.. (themostat thermometer temperature gauge)
My car is a 1990 Honda CRX Si.
The engine temperature in my gauge cluster seems to be malfunctioning.
Most of the time it just stays in the same position it is in when turned off. But sometimes it works. Ive checked all my fuses and everything seems to be operational. I have not taken any thing apart yet.
I was wondering where i should start, im not too good with electronics.
(honestly it scares the **** out of me.)
I apologize for the long topic title but i had trouble using the search function,
and i thought if we could figure this thing out together, it might help someone later with the same problem as me.
Thanks in advance.

Possiblity of being one of these...
-Bad thermostat. 1hr or so to replace
-Gauge malfunction.
-Bad ground (once was my problem) Had to take cluster apart and re-solder ground

I dont think it is a bad ground because everything else in the cluster is fine.
i will check the thermostat tomorrow.
Thanks for the reply!

Everything also worked in my case. It was a ground for the thermo gauge.
Just pick up a new thermostat its good for a tune up anyways.

if your thermostat was bad it would over heat. you should start with the easy stuff like making sure the plug for the temp sending unit is pluged in and its a good conection. i did a swap and that plug wasnt on all the way and my temp guage only worked when i hit a bump. its the single wire plug under the dizzy.

Not true at all. I just replaced my thermo becasue sometimes it would stick open not allowing to get to operating temp. It would do it randomly.

Ill head over to Autozone or Kragen tomorrow and pick up another one.
I should pick up a manual too while im at it. I really want to learn how to work on my car, and keep it maintained.
On a side note, what is a good manual to buy to learn how to work on these?
