Default question on how to sand side skirts

I just got some wings west abs side skirts. The previous owner had just painted over the color that the owner before him had them painted without prepping and now the paint is flaking off on some spots. My question is with what sand paper would I go about sanding them? I tried 1000 and it only took the glance off but there is still the weird spots where paint is flaking, how do I go about that?

Sand them down with 320 right down to the raw material. You dont wanna do it twice, and who knows if whoever did it the first time did it properly.

Prime them, but clean them with a plastic cleaner beforehand, and if you can, use an adhesion promoter before you put the primer on. A good idea is also to add a flex agent into the primer. You don't need to put a tonne of primer on either. 2-3 meduim coats should be plenty.

Sand them with 500, try not to break through the primer too much when you final sand them.

Not sure what materials you have access to, but that's the way I do it, and I haven't had any comebacks.

Good luck.

I was kind of worried that if I used too low of a number sand paper it may leave leave streaks.

the paint needs something to grab on to. 320 should do you fine. maybe even 220 to break through the dual layerage of paint.. nothing finer than 600 tho

Thanks for the help guys. So I got them all sanded and primered. I got a spray gun and wanted to try and attempt at painting them myself since they are only temporary. I found a website online that sells a pint of my paint color for $40. Is that pretty good? Also will a pint of paint be enought to paint the sides, front lip, and rear lip?

Hard to say if that's good unless ou link to the paint. There are so many variables, Price is relative. That would be plenty of paint tho.

Its from this website. Once you go to the link you have to hit the little thing to give you all the options and one of those is a "ready to spray pint can"

Also okn the website it says 1997 Integra but mine is a 1999 with the same color code, that should still work right?
