01-05 Civic Spl Edition stereo question..
Just want a cheap way to hook up an mp3 player plus have the ability to play mp3 CD's and it would be nice to have a 6-disc change in the car. And I know it sounds crazy, but my friend has a regular civic and the other has the special edition. I checked on hondaautomotiveparts.com and the speakers are identical for both cars, only difference is the head unit. THe special edition sounds really good for factory and they even manage to detune the bass out of the rear speakers a bit to make them not distort as much.
Anyhow on to the question, does anyone know if the wiring harness is the same for the special edition radio and for the regular EX radio?
I know there was no option for the coupe with the special edition and the side impact air bags, otherwise I would have gotten that setup when I got the car in 05.. But didn't seem to make sense to go from a 5 star side crash rating to a 3 star just to have a little better stereo.
Thanks in advance!

Six disc changer is old technology, especially with the advent of 40 & 80 Gig iPods.
However, if you really wanted to, you could get an aux input adapter for your MP3 player like this one: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piehon98aux.html, then get an FM Modulated CD changer. As far as playing MP3 cd's in the factory radio itself, I dunno. I don't know of any factory units off the top of my head that'll decode MP3's. Hell, even my wife's '07 Accord EX doesn't.
But if you were to find a single DIN Honda unit that plays MP3's, and it was made after 1998, then it'll probably work. Probably even be plug & play.
