Sunroof installation
I have a 99 DX coupe with no sunroof, and i know someone selling the SI electric sunroof would it be a good decision to get this instaled or am i asking for trouble?
What you guys think?

you will also need the roof skin, the headliner, the drain tubes, the wiring harness, the switch assy. and various other pieces that go with it.

No. That's incorrect.
Both cars with and without moonroofs have thin metal bars underneath the roof skin and above the headliner. They're more there to keep the roof from denting in slightly than anything. It's no roll cage.
You'd have to cut the entire roof out of your car. The coupe roof is a bit shorter (49 inches) than the hatch roof (53 inches). So you'd need the following parts.
I've included part numbers for both the USDM 1999 Civic Si coupe and the 1999 Civic VTi hatch. Some part numbers are different. I've also included both the USDM and EDM images from the EPC.

No, you cannot just cut a hole in your roof and put an OEM moonroof in. Civics with OEM moonroofs have a completely different roof skin.
So you will need a custom roof skin and headliner unless you have them shipped from Europe.
Here is why you can't just cut a hole in the roof skin.

Notice the fold around the outer edge of the roof skin. The roof gently folds in around the moonroof and then the seal for the moonroof panel is only on the glass. On aftermarket moonroofs the seal is around the hole cut into the roof too.
I'd say I recommend an aftermarket moonroof, but I don't. Not that there aren't plenty of aftermarket moonroofs out there that work just fine, but they do have a higher chance of leaks and well, I just don't like the look very much. I can't imagine finding replacement parts for an aftermarket roof either.

I woundn't do it, I had a friend get one put in and it leaked damn near every time it rained. Plus all it does is add weight anyhow. But it is your vehicle, so you should so what u want. Peicing it together would be a ****, but that's just my 2 cents.

its too much hassle. screw it. get a model that has sunroof. im not sure but someone also mention to me that it also affects the integrity of the car structure. something I would never do myself.
Oh yeah, and if you have a '98-'00 USDM model with a moonroof, it has a maplight in front of the moonroof too.
The biggest issues appear to be the headliner and roof skin. Both would probably be easiest to just buy them from Europe or Japan.

Which would be from Europe or Japan...
Notice that ALL of the info on a moonroof into a hatch that I posted... is info from a 1999 Honda Civic VTi hatch from Europe. It shares most of it's parts with the Si, but not enough.
Installing an OEM moonroof into a car without one is not as easy as cutting a hole in the roof. That is shown in the photos above too.

No. The closest to the VTi that Canada has is the Canadian SiR, which is the same as our USDM Civic Si.
