New GUy Has SoMe Questions about D16A1
Im new here and to imports, im mechanic but just dont work on imports or know much about them, I recently got myself a 1989 Integra LS 1.6 DOHC for $540 in mint condition almost othe rthan it needs the alternator replaced but no biggie, Now i do have a couple questions about the motors.
My friend explainded to me the "D" series motors are SOHC and the "B" series are DOHC, makes sense since it describes how its shaped hehe. Now my question is My integra is DOHC but uses D16A1 as the motor code, is it just because this is the first DOHC motor for them?
Also A friend said i can do a VTEC head swap and harness to make the car VTEC, is this true? What is involved in it?

I think you are correct sir. The D16a1 motor is also known as the ZC motor. Here's a link that will explain some of your questions

B16 is defenitely not the same thing as a d16A1.
ur D16 is running at like 114hp and 99 ft-lb torque. the B16 depending on what year can be up to 170 HP and 117 ft-lb torque. Also B series and D series parts are NOT interchangeable whatsoever. except for some random parts like I think some of the D series IACV's can work on B series motors.
but long story short B16A is totally different from D16A1

there are both SOHC and DOHC D series motors. Most D series motors are SOHC but you have one that happens to be DOHC. All B series motors, that I know of, are DOHC.

ok well is the vtec head swap possible with this motor? also what can i do with this motor to make more power?
This is what you do, you get a LS block and a GSR head then search the forum for some answers to ur questions such as how to build an ls vtec. I've already written up one explanation today so look it up on the first integra page its something like adding vtec on a b18b1 (LS block). As far as doing the conversion you will have to change everything from axles to tranny on a D series to B series conversion. If you have the money go for it, otherwise get a d16 for like 200 bucks boost it 16 psi and run that bitch into the ground, spend 200 more bucks and get another d16! they last long on boost and alot of people i know boost d series motors for that reason, they are cheap and can handle it for a while.
no, you cant do a VTEC head on this block..that i know of...just turbo it, i did mine, it rips pretty good...(actually i have the DOHC zc, which is almost identical to your d16a1)
