stock b16 turbo
I was wondering what are some good reliable turbo's out their? (precision,garrett,etc...) Right now the block is stock (b16) but plan on building it to the goal of 400 horse. The car will be street driven. I had a cheap turbo and it lasted a couple months so i would like something that is going to last. Also considering my power goals would you suggest getting the expensive bb turbo vs. the non bb turbo?
thanks in advance

For 400whp, a simple piston/rod combination would suffice. As for the turbo setup, you're not going to need anything fancy. A ramhorn and a 57 trim will get you there on about 16-17psi. You will not need a ball bearing turbo to get there and wont gain much by going that route...for the money, you could buy a lot better things.
If you were shooting to have 500whp on race gas (higher than the efficiency of the 57 trim), AND wanted the same spool as a 57 trim, then you should look at a better turbo....it doesn't necessarily have to be ball bearing to get the desired results either. The Borg Warner S256/S258 will make the same power as a GT3076r but without the hassle of coolant lines. Also, one thing people should know ahead of time when looking at a BB turbo is that they CAN NOT be rebuilt.

so is their any specific brand that you like or have had in the past that you would consider a reliable turbo. would you recomend sleeving the block also or is that over kill for only 400 horse? i would be happy with anymore then 300 if it is going to last longer. i just want a eleven second car.
sc61 or equal is an excellent turbo to run. make about 300whp on 9 psi or so and i have personally take a stock b16 motor with a inline pro(style) manifold and made 630whp.
As far as turbos, i have owned 3 Garretts and haven't had any problems. I would suggest Garrett, Borg Warner and Precision. For your power goals, sleeving would be overkill, but if you want to be 100% sure you'll never have issues, you may consider doing it. Again, it is NOT necessary.
As for manifolds, i know that SLS makes a lot of good stuff. I run an SLS mini ram on my DD and love it. PM PSI2HI and get some prices on their ramhorn or Prototype manifold. I know a number of people who run them and love their manifolds. Also, since SLS is local, i've been there more than a few times and i've seen their top-notch work in person. They get nothing but praise from me
Also, if you're looking for suggestions on a turbo for 400whp, the obvious choice would be a 57trim. If you're looking for something a little better that can support more power for the future, my ONLY suggestion would be the Borg Warner S256 .70ar. An S362 or an SC61 is too large for your goals IMO. You wouldnt gain anything by getting either of them except more unnecessary lag. There's no reason to go larger than necessary...

Dont think that running a stock B16 at those power levels is going to last more than a few dyno runs...if you're lucky, you might get it down the track a handfull of times. If you want that kind of power, you have no choice but to build.
