90 CRX
I bought a crx that has a ls/vtec bad engine ( i knew it was bad) im turning it into a project... now people/friends are telling me that i should by a new engine im thinking new block ... i made the engine start but smoke comes out ... i can use all the help please its my first car
First, you picked a perfect car for your first car, even your first project, and with a ls/vtec you can do alot of upgrades to get more out of your investment. I'm not an expert on ls/vtec, but I can definitely give you some pointers here and there. I know a guy who had some serious smoking issues when vtec was engaging: since its a daily driver its tough working on a project when your trying to get from point a to b, so I think if it were me I would start by pulling the head and taking it to a machine shop and have them give you an estimate on the work your looking at getting yourself into. Start there and work your way down to the block. Since the guy who sold it to you probably had it over the redline it probably just stressed something out: have them check the valvetrain. valves. seals. springs.retainers..all that jive. but they'll know what to look for. And if things check out..maybe its some piston ring issues..ya just never can say for sure until you start inspecting the internals. If your not on a tight budget, you may consider doing some upgrades to the bottom end as well to help support that vtec head you got tacked on. But even before all that..I would have to ask you how much of your money your planning on putting into this. Your friends may be right..A new motor might be more up your alley. It just depends on how much effort and dedication your planning on putting down. But to note on the block. B18C.

Holy lack of spacing Batman. I couldn't even focus enough to read that.
But anyway.....just get another LS engine for cheap and then work on the Vtec head to see if its any good.
