http://www.timesert.com/html/mtrcsert.html

You can use something similar to that, drill out the hole and insert a thread the original size

For something like that, a helicoil will solve the problem. Timeserts are good but tend to be really expensive depending on the dealer. A helicoil kit for a M-8(bolt size) should be around $30-$45 for the entire kit(helicoils and tap).

Helicoils are always in my toolbox. The kit isn't cheap but it has enough inserts to fix 10 stripped threads.

You can just retap/chase them. If that don't work retap them.

Helicoil has worked well for me for that; I've stripped out many of those. Any more I install studs in the head, keeps me from stripping the threads out so much.

i had 2 that stripped on me and I just drilled out what was left of the threads and tapped with a larger size (I cant remember the size I used but I found it at the local auto parts store so i now have 2 standard size studs and the rest metric but it worked.

Its an aggravating project but take your time or have someone who knows how to do it help. Good luck!

oh and I did all of this without taking anything out of the car other than the exhaust manifold/turbo/downpipe.
