PISTON PICS WANTED - b16 or similar
Hello all.. this is my first post so be nice (as i'm sure you all are)..
I am looking for a range of photos of stock honda pistons.. I'm only looking for ~81mm pistons (so b16? and others).. Basically i'm trying to find the best made stock piston, eg best design, pref slipper design, pref. flat top not domed etc.. I've seen the Integra Type-R pistons which look nice, but they have a substantial dome on them which is no good for me..
So.. 81mm pistons with the ~30mm compression height and ~21mm pin.. any pics welcome!
Many thanks
Stu

cool, do you have any photos of those pistons not in the block?

Excellent, thanks for pointing that out.
Does anyone know if any 81mm OE Honda pistons don't have a raised dome?

I was actually "pointing that out" to simply
To be honest there's really only one OE piston with a raised dome and that's the Civic type R (PCT) pistons. Anything else is more or less flat in comparrison.
Here's a site that you may want to play with to give you a better idea of how each piston acts compression wise in a b-series motor:

yeah there should be a pic of them out of the block in my thread.
the 12:!ish is with a gsr head
how trusty is the c-speed calc? i thought there was a whole controversy with the online calcs.
whats your reasoning for a non domed piston?

It's fine for approximating comp ratios. The only thing it's really off on is any time you try to calculate CTR pistons in anything. All other pistons are good.

Because I am considering using them in a non-Honda engine as a turbo piston..

look into the ls pistons. i think the las runs like 10:1 compression stock. and you can mildly boost a stock ls with good results.

Okay, will do. Their performance on a Honda engine though won't really apply so much to my application, but it's worth a look! Thanks!

The B18a/b and B17a/b engines have the flattest piston, they both actually have a 'negative dome'. Meaning the piston surface dips downward or is more flat, instead of pushing out like the CTR/B16 pistons. For 81mm bore there are the B181/b (PR4) and B17a/b(P61) that have negative dome, and for 84mm bore the stock B20B(???) piston has a negative dome, as well.
Low compression pistons that should be good for low (7 or so) psi applications.
As for pictures and comparisons, this site is awesome. http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/pistons/
And for b-series technical comparisons:

Credit to both of those sites, lots of good info to be had.
