Default Mitsubishi 4G63t turbo on d16z6(WILL it work)

Has anyone done a build with a Mitsubishi 4G63t turbo? Is it worth buying for $180. How most hp can be safely gained on a d16z6 with low compression pistons with this turbo?

its a small turbo, even for a d-series. Get something larger that will support the flow for your goals. what is ur power goal? a t3 .48/.60 is a good choice.

Power goal is wat the engine can handle. forged weisco pistons, egale rods, cylinder brace, head studs. Thanks for the help.

DSM (4G63) stock turbos are for very low hp setups. I'd go with a .63 hot / .60 compressor t3/t4 for your setup.

my boy made 400whp on an evo 9 turbo which he sent to buscher for an upgraded cold side......i dont know if they changed the housing, wheel, both, or what, but it spools like a mo fo.

i guess it depends on what 4g63 turbo he was referring to. theres a decent amount of difference from a 14b, t25 and 16g

Dont go with the DSM turbo...especially if the engine is built. I would get either a T3 Super60 or a T3/T04e 50 trim .63ar for your goals. Those turbos would be fun on the street but still get you over 300whp on pump gas

teh 14b is ok.. its small but works. i ran a 12.8 with one runnin like 11 psi . with just an fmu and manual timing retard haha.. but for that price u can get a better turbo. even some ebay turbos are ok.. despite what ppl say u can find decent ones

i can see using a 16g but your car will be able to handle some significant power so i would rock a larger turbo. But rock out what you want just remember dont know how new you are to the game but dsm turbos are internally gated.

Sorry, gotta chime in... It really depends on what 4g63 "turbo" you are talking about. If you're talking about a turbo from a 1st-gen DSM (a 14b), I've known people personally to go 12's on them.

Obviously, if you are looking to go bigger or faster easier, get another turbo. Stay away from the T25 turbos from the 2nd gen's... they're F**'in junk!

when boosting your car you want to go with a t3 turbo because t3 tubine housings are common and are off the self turbos. and most after market turbo manifolds and standard precision/garrett turbos are eith flanged t3 or t4. if you dont want much power you can get a t3 50 trim or a t3 gt28r. then you can always upgrad to a 30r/35r

with the 4g63's 14b and t25 they use a round mitsu flange. how the hell are u going to find a turbo manifold for that??? and if you do fine a turbo manifold or get one custom made you still stuck with that pos turbo with no option to upgrade with out changing manifolds.

same thing goes for the evos big 16g. its a unique mitsu twin scroll turbo. again how are u going to get a manifold for that.

always still to t3 turbo flanges if you under 600whp and t4 for over 600whp

Is a OBX turbo with 64 trim and a 0.63 a/r a good choice?

When someone says 4g63(T) it's considered the (DSM) turbos because there were Non-Turbo 4g63's .
