WHATS WRONG WITH MY CAR?!?!?!?!
it stopped snowing so i finally got a chance to get the car out of the car cover and find out why the belts that go on the crank pulley cam off. so when i put the power steering belt on i see that the belt is not aligned with the crank pulley. what happen before this was that my crank sprocket got damaged. i need help fast.
Have you had the crank pulley of before, and the timing gear thing behind it? If so did you put the two circular spacer looking things that help keep the belt in place? That might could off set it, but if its pretty visual that might not be it. Sorry for the language lingo, couldnt remember things names
That could happen, but for what im saying imagine this: end of crank, washer spacer looking thing, timing belt gear, another washer spacer thing, then key, then crank pulley. If you've had this apart before, did you put those washer looking things back in? They're very thin, probably wouldnt throw it off much, but it might be enough to make come off. But like crazyguy said get pics, and he'll be able to tell you.
this is not my car but this is similar to what happened. does this spacer you are talking about go with the key???
i was driving the car like this for 2 months and now this happened.

the side of the power steering belt is touching the crank pulley. when i tightened the ps belt it was bet a little outward because it was touching on the crank shaft. something must have moved out of place. the second i would have started the car the second the belt would have come off or start to shread which is what happened to the old belt.
do you need more details?
thanks for all the help.

If the p/s is touching the crank pulley, its either p/s or related componet has moved, or the crank pulley has came outward. If the crank pulley is all the way on and seated nicely with the key in, then its probably on the p/s side of the problem. Have done anything with that? Thats all i really know, your welcome
The two washers that you spoke about are both there and in place.
What happened was that the first time the motor was put together, for the first 4k miles everything was fine. Then the crank pulley bolt came loose and sheared up the woodruff key and the crankshaft snout a little bit.
It was a little messed up, slightly but not enough to not put a new key in there with a new pulley. Well we put a new key, torqued it to 100lbs and locktit'ed the bolt.
A few weeks later, while driving the car, the power steering belt was tore to shreds and the alternator belt got stuck behind the crank pulley.
Its too cold to do anything, but the crank bolt seems tight when I checked it by hand. What would cause the crankshaft pulley to move over a few mm?
