Default What DP diameter from SC6152 4-bolt flange?

I was intending to build a 3" DP, but this thing doesn't seem to want one. . . With standard wall-thickness aluminized 3", the bolts will barely fit beside the welds to weld the tube to the flange, even if I use allens. I could maybe just cut it really close, and then grind away from the welds a bit where I need to in order to make clearance for the bolt heads. Then I could use a stub DP off of the housing with a V-band to the rest of the DP. . .

Bottom line, at what point to I NEED a 3"? This is not going to be an all-out performance build, just a nice driver.

Thanks guys!

Dent the pipe around the bolt holes

Okay, can do!

So the 3" DP is pretty beneficial for power levels that aren't super high then, huh?

I kind of figured I wanted the big volume to help the spool, and especially since I plan to route in the wastegate dump.

By the way StraightLineSpecialties, NICE FLANGE! ! ! !

you could dimple the pipe where the bolts go in or maybe use some allen head hardware.

Are there any good threads or other resources that really lay out how you determine what size downpipe is necessary? It's an interesting topic to me at the moment.

Most likely the sc61 4 bolt size is bigger then the normal garrett, but if its the same size, there is no way a 3 inch is going to fit on there. We had to do a 2.5 to 3 for this customer.

Yeah, that is what I'm dealing with. . . Those parts are NICE!

Like posted above, you will need to start with a 2.5" outlet 4-bolt flange (3" outlet 4-bolt flange is made to fit garrett gt-style turbine style housings) and run the 2.5"-3" reducer off the turbo to make the 3" downpipe work good luck

i think you guys are just making it harder for yourselves. it takes me 10 sec. to take a flat head screwdriver and dent the pipe slightly to fit a allen head bolt.

i have done this on every dp i have ever made.

I'll give this a try. If it doesn't work out, I'll drop back to one of the more elaborate approaches.

Thanks!

I have this slightly smaller 4 bolt housing and full mandrel 3" piping from flange to flange. I can provide pics if ness. but it will fit, its VERY tight with the allens but I did not even have to dent the pipe.

I would like to see any pics you could provide if it's not too much of a hassle. I know it can be a pain to get them taken, edited, hosted, and linked, so I understand if you don't feel like it!

I did a 3" on my 5-bolt flange, which is even tighter. I just made it almost square-shaped, which allowed me to use regular 12mm hex-head bolts. I can fit a normal craftsman socket on them all. Ideally you'd want to use the reducer anyways, as it would help out with flow (less disruptive).

I called ATP Turbo and ordered a 3 inch V-band from Garrett 4 bolt adapter, and ordered a 3 inch V-band modular downpipe from them. Worked great for me, and wasn't that costly at all.
