Default MFactory Close Ratio Gears Installation

Hey Guys,

How long would it take to install the close ratio gear set on my 2000 ITR transmission from a shop? 5 hours?

Thanks

??? It'll be different for everyone... remove tranny, open case, replace gears, close case, install tranny.

Air tools and and lift it can be done in probably 3 hours or less... doing it on the ground with wrenches you are looking at about twice as long. Its really straight forward and as long as you have all the tools (puller, tube to press gears on, etc..) its pretty easy.

Craig - Who thinks the record is >2hrs for a final drive install.

A shop will probably charge by the book (shops use a book that lists time for different jobs).

Takes me about 2 hours from taking the trans out to getting it back in just for a gear swap.

Thanks Guys. Looks like it might be an expensive install from a shop.

Thanks for the confidence man, but I wouldn't trust myself to do that. I'm gonna try and see if a buddy at the dealership will do it for me and just pay him. Too bad you weren't in canada Aquafina, then you could make some good cash installing them for me. :-)

Its really not has hard as it sounds. If you can drop the tranny. Then you can tear apart the tranny period.

I had a harder time getting the shift linkage apart more then anything. Tearing down the transmission was easy. Except for that one bearing. Damn was it a pain to get off. (I didn't use any bearing pullers when i did mine)

Get in touch with Rich at southside Acura or Jack at Honda or any number of those guys who are still in the game. Wai is very good too.

Though I'm guessing this is the crew whom you might be referring to.

RacingAngel: Thanks for the tip, I'll try and stop by Acura and Honda this weekend and talk to them. My buddy works at Westside Mitsu and probably knows these guys.

I've got the JDM Final drive and Prolite flywheel allready, so with the MFactory gears, my DC2R will pull pretty hard. Mu buddy has the ATS 3-4-5 Cross gears and it is amazing on his Type R.

I can do the install after New Years if you want me to. I'd just ask that you have the trans pulled from the car and a table vice available. Vice isn't absolutely needed, but it makes removing/installing the countershaft nut easier if you don't have a nice air impact.

I never go on a roadtrip without my dremel.

Not needed for the gear set install in a Z6 though . Y8 it is needed.

My Buddy says Wai will do it for $300 including taking tranny off. Does $300 CDN sounds good for a local guy?

it depends on what gearset he got, if he has the 1.384 4th then he will have to grind the tranny case
